(love) from the Greek term and Sophos/ Sophia (knowledge,
wisdom)
2. Wolf (1989), also believes philosophy as love for
wisdom.
3. Russel(1946), state that philosophy as something between
theology and
science which contains items that have not been accurate or
not
real.

2. The Concept of Philosophy of Education

1. Derived from two basic terms, namely, philosophy and


education.
2. Educational concept is derived from the Latin,
educare, which means
"maintain or nurture".

According to the Dictionary of Education(1979):


Education is a comprehensive process aimed at
developing
abilities and human behavior. It is also a social
process that
provide an opportunity for an individual to acquire
social skills and personal development. In addition,

carried out in an atmosphere selected and

institutionalized and known as the school ".

5. E.D. Miller, in his book Questions that Matter(1984),
interpreting
business philosophy as a rational and critical thinking
on the important thing
or matters. Thus, the philosophy of education can be
defined as
efforts to think rationally and critically to education.

can be summarized
as guidance, direction or opinion on education.

3. Importance of Philosophy of Education to Teachers


1. Philosophy of education be construed as guidance, direction or opinion
on matters relating to education.
2. The philosophy of education will be the fuel that gives guidelines
and an inspiration to all the efforts of education - whether in or outside
the educational institution.
