Prerequisites
During the commissioning, the weather should be suitable and there should
be no rain/fog between stations.
The on-site conditions and personnel in charge of the antenna
commissioning must meet the requirements of operation at a high altitude.
The ATPC function is disable.
Note: If there are two antennas at each site, it needs to align the main
antennas and diversity antennas at both ends respectively. First align
the main antennas and then the diversity antennas. Both antennas at
local site should be aligned with the main antenna at opposite end.
Page 41
R2 New Slide
Aligning the antennas is the most important activity in the HOP commissioning,
and its result has a direct effect on the performance of the radio link. There are
two types of antenna Single-Polarized Antenna, dual-Polarized Antenna .
When you align the single-polarized antennas, you need to align the main lobe
of the antenna signals by adjusting the azimuth angle and elevation angle of
the antennas at both ends.
When you align the dual-polarized antennas, you need to align the main lobe
of the antenna signals by adjusting the azimuth angle and elevation angle of
the antennas at both ends. You also need to adjust the feed booms of the
antennas and ensure that the Cross-Polarization Discrimination (XPD) meets
the specified requirements.
Page 42
Adjust Slide
Procedure
1.
According to the designed received signal level (RSL) along with the
relationship curve between the VBNC and RSL described in the user
documents (shipped with the equipment) of the ODU reference
documents, read the designed value of the V BNC.
2.
3.
Fix the antenna at the opposite end, and adjust the azimuth
(elevation) of the antenna at the local end in a wide range. Use the
multi-meter to observe the VBNC value of the ODU at the local end. At
least three peak signals should be detected and the voltage of the
peak signal in the middle should be maximum. When the V BNC
reaches the maximum value, tighten the antenna. When the
antenna is being tightened, keep that the V BNC is always the
maximum.
Page 43
6.
7.
8.
9.
As step 3, adjust the elevation (azimuth) of the antenna. And tighten it.
Tighten the antennas at the local end. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to adjust
the antennas at the opposite end and tighten them.
Repeat steps 3 to 5 for two to four times. When the RSL of the
antennas at the local end and the remote end reach the maximum
value, tighten the antennas at both ends.
Test VBNC of ODUs at both ends by multi-meter. Read the actual receive
power level (RSL) by referring to the relationship curve between the
VBNC and RSL for the ODUs at both ends. The difference between actual
RSL value and its designed value should be ranged from -3 dB to +3
dB.
If the VBNC does not meet the above requirements, check whether the
antennas at both ends are approximately aligned by referring to the
step2. Also you can refer to the OptiX RTN 600 Radio Transmission
System Maintenance Guide for solutions.
After antennas aligning is complete, tighten all screws of the antennas.
Page 44
R2 New Slide
Step 1: Power off the vertically polarized ODUs at both ends of the radio
link, power on the horizontally polarized ODUs at both ends of the radio
link, and thus ensure that the antennas transmit horizontally polarized
signals.
Step 2: Adjust the azimuth angle and elevation angle of the antennas at
both ends by referring to Aligning the Single-Polarized Antennas, and
ensure that the main lobe of the horizontally polarized signals is aligned
with the antenna.
Step 3: Measure the RSL (P1) of the horizontally polarized signals at the
local end.
Use a multimeter to measure the signal level on the RSSI port of the
horizontally polarized ODU.
Calculate the RSL (P1) of the horizontally polarized received signals
by referring to the curve diagram in the ODU box.
Page 45
R2 New Slide
Step 4: Adjust the feed boom at the local end, and ensure that
the RSL of the vertically polarized signals reaches the lower
threshold (P2).

SDH Analyser
Procedure
Web LCT
Connect the SDH Analyser to the first E3 (DS3) port of the equipment on the
local side.
On the equipment on the opposite side, use an E3 (DS3) cable to loop back the
services over the first E3 (DS3) port towards the tributary board, that is,
hardware inloop over the E3 (DS3) port. If the hardware inloop fails, perform
software inloop over the E3 (DS3) port by using the Web LCT.
Test the BER for 5 to 10 minutes by using the SDH Analyser . There should be
no bit errors.

Procedure
Check the status of the order wire at the local equipment side.
The status of the order wire should meet the following
requirements:
Page 54
Pick up the order wire, and press the TALK key on the front panel of the
phone. The red indicator on the upper right side of the front panel is on,
accompanied by the dial tone.
Dial the order wire number of the opposite equipment. Normally, the voice
quality is good and the voice is clear.
The maintenance personnel at the opposite equipment side dials the order
wire of the local equipment. Normally, the order wire rings and at the same
time the red indicator on the upper right side of the front panel is on.

Precautions
If the 24-hour BER cannot be tested for each hop on the link
because of the restrictions of the actual situation, choose the
E1 service of the first node and terminal node of each link to
perform this test. This operation ensures that the test path
covers all the radio links.
The following test procedure considers the E1 service between
stations as an example. If no E1 service is configured between
stations, perform the test through the configured WS service
(only applicable in the SDH radio).
