What is a paragraph?

3. Gives the writer’s main idea or opinion about the topic.
After you have chosen a topic and planned your topic sentence,
you develop your main idea by adding more information. The three
most common ways of adding more information are to use details,
explanations or examples.*

Explanation: “A stitch in time saves nine”. My mother,
who likes to sew, used this simple expression to teach me the
value of working on small problems when they are still small.
Originally, this expression referred to sewing – if you have a
small hole in a shirt you can repair it with just one stitch. If
you wait, however, the hole will get larger and requires nine
stitches. This simple sentence reminds me to take care of
small problems before they become big problems.
