For the development of PLS model large amount of samples require, therefore in this study we used 100 samples.
Where, Calibration 70 & validation 30 samples.

Data processing (PLS)

Spectral data (X)

PLS finds a set of orthogonal components that :

maximize the level of explanation of both X and Y
provide a predictive equation for Y in terms of the Xs
fitting a set of components to X (as in PCA)
similarly fitting a set of components to Y
reconciling the two sets of components so as to maximize
explanation of X and Y
X = TP + E
Y = UQ + F

Juice concentration (Y)

This is done by:

Where, T= scores/latent vector of X, P=loadings for X

U= Scores of Y, Q=loadings of Y, E & F =error of X &Y

Conclusion & further modification

In this project laboratory based spectrometer was developed.
SPLICCO and Csharp was used for data acquisition.
Spectrometer wavelength were calibrated with LED light source.
Orange juice samples with different concentration was measured with the spectrometer.
The absorption data form the spectrometer showed that, as the juice concentration increased the
absorption decreased around 600 nm (associated with the yellow color of the juice).
Furthermore, PLS model was developed for the predication of juice concentration.
The predicted form PLS model was 0.99 and 0.98 respectively, while the SEC and SEP was 0.92 and
2.60%.
Proper focusing and handling was difficult task during spectrometer development therefore in further
modification accurate calibration of spectra and light is highly essential.
In future work LABVIEW program will be developed for calibration and data acquisition.
