GLOBAL WARMING

Hello
!
I am Dickson

Objectives
Educate people about what is Global warming
and how
it takes place.
Educate people about the main causes of
Global warming.
Educate people about the measures that can
be taken as an individual to reduce Global
warming.

What
is
Global
Warming?
Global Warming is a term for
the observed century-scale
rise
in
the
average
temperature of the Earth's
climate
system
and
its
related effects.

How does it take place?

Global Warming takes place due to excess green house
gasses accumulating in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases
(GHGs) trap heat in the atmosphere. This trapped heat keeps
the earth warm in order for us to survive. The Earth gets
energy from the sun in the form of sunlight. Some of the
energy from the sun is absorbed by Earth and heats up. The
Earth cools down by giving off a different form of energy
called Infrared Radiation. This Infrared Radiation is again
absorbed by the GHGs making the Earths surface warmer.
Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxides, ozone, and water
vapor are the most common GHGs causing Global Warming.

CAUSES
OF
GLOBAL
WARMING

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Emission
CO2 is mainly produced from burning of fossil fuels
like Coal to produce electricity.
Burning of gasoline for transportation.

Deforestation
Illegal Logging
Forest Fires
Slash-and-burn agriculatural technique that involves
cutting and burning of plants and trees in forests to
create fields to fertilize crops.

Methane (CH4) Emissions

CH4is emitted into the earths atmosphere during the production,
processing, storage, transmission, and distribution of natural gas and
petroleum.
Livestock such as cattle, buffalo and sheep produce large amounts of
methane as their normal digestive process (enteric fermentation).
Manure that is stored in anaerobic conditions produce methane.
Landfill sites.

Global warming is
irreversible but not
unstoppable!

Fighting Global Warming

Though you might feel like your lifestyle is
insignificant compared to things like oil extraction
or vehicle emissions, the choices we make in our
day-to-day life- how we get around, what we eat,
how we live- play a major role in slowing climate
change. The good news is that there are simple
steps you can take to help do your part in the fight
against global warming.

What can an individual

do?
Replace all your light bulbs into fluorescent bulbs which
consume minimal electricity. Turn off the lights when you
dont need them!

Unplug your electronics completely instead of switching

them off since most electronics still consume electricity
when they are switched off.

Purchase electronics that has ENERGY STAR ratings,

an international standard for energy-efficient consumer
products, typically utilize a minimum of 20 % less
energy.

Plant trees that will provide shade and soak up carbon

from the atmosphere instead of ornamental trees.

CONTD

Walking or cycling instead of driving can play a huge role in reducing

the global CO2 emissions.

If driving cannot be avoided then purchase a fuel-efficient car or use

public transport where possible.

Modify your diet to include less meat so that methane and carbon
dioxide emissions from livestock can be reduced.

The most important contribution to prevent global warming is to

educate people about global warming and its causes and effects.
Teach people on how an individual can contribute their part to fight
global warming.
