Industry Introduction

 The Origin of the word “bank” is from Europe.

 The word “bank” belongs to Greek word (Banque) meaning Joint Fund.

 Goldsmith was the first person who issue a receipt for the deposit and to undertake
financial transactions

 The first bank in India General Bank of India established in 1786.

 Next were the bank of Hindustan and Bengal Bank in 1809.

 Nationalization of banks in India starts in 1960.

 On April 1, 1935 Reserve Bank of India was formed.


Objectives of the study

 To determine the accessibility of banks to rural customers.

 To know the awareness of rural customers about various products and services provided by the bank.

 To determine various types of loan provided to rural customers.

 To know the time spend by rural customers during various transactions.

 To check the grievance handling of the bank.

 To check the performance of the banks in rural areas.

 To know the availability of cash at bank in rural areas.

 Its headquarter is located at Residency Road, Srinagar Kashmir.

Stake of J&K Govt.

 In 1947 the J&K Bank lost its two branches out of ten one in Muzaffarabad and other in
Mirpur .

Results of study

 The study reveals that 61% respondents are having relationship with different banks
and other 29% are not having relationship with any bank.

 Majority of respondents i.e.47% are having relationship with J&K bank and other
53% respondents with different banks. This means that J&K bank has maximum
market share.

 From my findings it is clear that 59% of respondents have availed loan from banks. It
shows the credit is easily available.

 Most of respondents i.e. 47% have availed loan for horticulture ,this shows that
district Baramulla is dependent on fruit business.

 Majority of the respondents 47% have to travel nearly in between 1-5 km for banking. It means that
some banks are at convenient places for general masses.

 Most of the respondents 56% are aware about new products and services offered by bank and only
44% respondents are not having any knowledge.
it means product promotion is not up to the mark.

 The study reveals that 46% respondents spend below 15 minutes during different kinds of
transactions .It means process of the bank is good but not best.

 The study reveals that 47% respondent agree the statement that bank is handling customer grievance
well .
Suggestions and
Recommendations
 Branches and ATM’s should be at convenient places.

 Bank should provide more credit for horticulture, agriculture and handicrafts.

 Bank should provide proper awareness to customers.

 Bank should provide special schemes to rural customers.

 Number of branches and ATMs should be increased.

 Modern technology should be used in every branch.

 Customer grievance should be handled in a more proper way.
