Psalm 15

Friends of God
Friend of God, deepen your
spirit within us, For you laid your life
for your friends
Refrain:

Dear God, who are the honor guests

in your tent? Who may dwell in your
presence upon your holy mountain
Who may commune with those who
are your hearts desire, Lovingly
embraced in the union of friends?

Refrain: Friend of God, deepen your spirit

within us, For you laid your life for your
friends
Those who lead incorrupt lives,
And do the thing that is right,
Who speak the truth from their hearts,
And have not slandered with their tongue.

Refrain: Friend of God, deepen your spirit

within us, For you laid your life for your
friends
Those who have not betrayed their
friends,
Nor rained down abuse on their
neighbors,
In whose house the shifty have no honour,
But hold in high esteem those who fear
God.

Refrain: Friend of God, deepen your spirit

within us, For you laid your life for your
friends
Those who give their word to their
neighbor,
And do not go back on their promise,
Who have no grown wealthy
at the expense of the poor,
Nor grown sleek with flattery and bribes.

Refrain: Friend of God, deepen your spirit

within us, For you laid your life for your
friends
Those who recognize the outcast
as the one whom they need,
Who forgive to seventy times seven,
Who depend on the mercy of God,
And live the highest law that is love.
Those who are steadfast and kind,
Who are resilient and patient and
humble,
Who know the cost of a morsel of justice,
A glimpse of compassion in times that are

Refrain: Friend of God, deepen your

spirit within us, For you laid your life for
your friends
Their roots are deep in the being of God,
their arms are spread wide in welcome
embrace.
They are faithful, joyful, and blessed,
Gods sisters and brothers and friends.

PSALM 99
HOLY IS GOD
Holy, holy, holy is the living God,
holy in the awesome intimacy of love,
holy is the terrible demands of love,
holy in the silent suffering of love.

Holy God, you reign throughout the

universe,
enthroned as a king majestic and just,
kneeling before us as a healer with
wounds,
touching our foreheads as a woman
who is wise.
Creatures of light and darkness
surround you,
eyes glistening with tears of
thanksgiving.

Holy, holy, holy is the living God,

holy in the awesome intimacy of love,
holy is the terrible demands of love,
holy in the silent suffering of love.

Yours is the power that holds,

the power of justice and love.
Yours is the holiness that sears,
bringing to light our falsehoods.
The prophets, the priests, and the
wise,
Moses and Aaron, Samuel and
Solomon,

call assured upon your name,

knowing that you will teach them,
showing them how to lead the people.
burning into them your holiness,
never yielding the commandment to
love,
refusing to let any of us sink deep
into the mire and oblivion of sin.

Holy, holy, holy is the living God,

holy in the awesome intimacy of
love,
holy is the terrible demands of love,
holy in the silent suffering of love.

Holy was your presence in the love of your

Christ.
always in places the pious rejected,
born in a cave among a people oppressed,
suffering the hidden cost of forgiveness,
embracing the outcast who were deemed
impure,
dying disgraced and disfigured.
even on a cross that was holy and hopeful.
