Standardization

Bottlenecks
Transformer 90% loading is 135 MVA

Referred standard.

Solution
Generator loads of STG and GTG not be
taken more than 135 MVA.

All equipment to be loaded to 90% load to

compensate for Electrical losses and transients.

Transformer loading at 80% for Oil immersed

Transformer for safe operation.

IEEE 242 recommends no more than 125% for 30

seconds on synchronous generator

IEEE 242

55C Oil Insulation temperature allow able.

IEC Standard 354 and 950

Higher load on generators may lead to more

vibration and Heating. Looking at the current
scenario, higher temperature may lead to
insulation failure.

General Principles upon which Temperature

Limits are Based in the Rating of Electrical
Machines and Other Equipment, IEEE Standard

No. 1, 1969, and Guide for Functional
Evaluation of Insulation
Systems for Large High Voltage Machines
IEEE Standard No. 434-1973

Currents higher than 6400 amperes (80% of

Rated current of Breaker) across the GCB with
seriously affect GCB's health.
Condition of the Isolator may seriously be
affected and may lead to failure. Therefore it is
recommended to change the current GCB
isolator.

For ANSI oil, IEEE Std C57.91-1995Guide for Loading

Load not to be taken above 120 MVA
Mineral-Oil-Immersed Transformers

Load at 150 MVA not to be sustained for

more than 30 seconds keeping in sight
load swings on the grid which may lead to
a peak of 170 MVA.

IEC Code for Circuit breakers

Currents to be kept below 6400 Amperes
