Principle of Deaeration
Henrys law: gas solubility in a solution
decreases as the gas partial pressure
above the solution decreases .

Principle of Deaeration:
Solubility Law: Solubility of gases
decreases with increase in solution
temperature .

TEMPERATURE EFFECT

Why / What of Regerative Heaters?

In a simple Rankine cycle, heat is added to
the cycle at reduced average temperature .
To increase the average temperature of
heat addition extracting stream from the
turbine is used to heat the feed water. This
process is called regeneration .
The heat exchanger where heat is
transferred from steam to feed water is
called a regenerator, or a feed water
heater.

Regenerative Rankine Cycle

Type of Heater
There are actually two main types of feed
water heaters.
If the steam mixes with the water, it is an
open feed water heater.
If the steam does not mix with the water ,
it is a closed feed water heater.

Open heater
An open feed water heater is basically a
mixing chamber, where the steam extracted
from the turbine mixes with the water exiting
the pump. In an ideal condition, the water in
the heater is a saturated liquid at the heater
pressure & gases removed out through vent.
DEAERATOR is an open heater.
The mixture pumped by BFP and send to
boiler Economiser.

CONDENSATE

Deaeration process

The feed water is sprayed in thin films into a steam atmosphere

allowing it to become quickly heated to saturation. Spraying feed
water in thin films increases the surface area of the liquid in
contact with the steam, which, in turn, provides more rapid oxygen
removal and lower gas concentrations. This process reduces the
solubility of all dissolved gases and removes it from the feed
water. The liberated gases are then vented from the deaerator
