The date line is noticeable in the first third and being in serif font, but

is not overwhelming due to the small typography.

I named my magazine Spinit, relating to turn
tables on a DJ set. This already informs the
viewer that it is a dance magazine and
attracts the right buyers. By creating a logo,
the magazine is more branded and
recognisable. It also ensures that attention is
still drawn to the masthead as well as the
slightly vibrant image. Rotating the

the magazine and therefore fits the
aesthetics. It is stark white to match the
masthead and be seen against the black and
greys. The font is serif, making the statement
appear professional and therefore reliable.

gains attention. It gives a professional
appearance with the use of shades
instead of colours and the fonts are very
easy to read and understand due to being
sans serif. This also makes the magazine
appear more casual and approachable
The main cover story is located in the left
third, gaining immediate attention. It is in the
bold stark white that is seen in the masthead
with a subtle black outline to contrast against
the bright shade and catch the viewers eye. I
kept the title simple, using the well-known
stars recognisable name to attract fans of
the artist and the genre instantly. Below, the
new DJ taking the world by storm! will
attract new readers with a curiosity of the
genre. This line is slightly darker than the

The barcode is in the last third (bottom right), an
area which the eye typically avoids. This ensures
no distraction from the main image. It is upright
and easy to scan but doesnt take up too much
room on the page.

Using an image as the background was also

inspired by the V magazine that I have
previously analysed. However, instead of a
neutral image I went for bold hues to fit with
the genre and have the highest impact
possible. The photograph is slightly blurred to
show movement: hinting at dance. I used two
lights to create this finish, keeping in mind
the colour schemes of my other pages. It is
supposed to be an image caught in action of
a music video (discussed in the double page
spread), which is recognisable and therefore
appealing and slightly nostalgic to the
audience.

The black borders tie the graphics into the text. The logo appears
more in place with blacks used than if all text was white or in

The title of the article fills the first

page, clear and to the point. Using a
quote within the same page reels the
reader in and adds interest. I placed a
dark grey box behind the serif (and
therefore impressive) text to avoid
confusion with the background and to
make the stark white text stand out
further. The quote is slightly darker in
a shade of grey, distinguishing the
title from the added quote.
