Context

Group of scientists in 1970s pitching for the

adoption of LCD Technology by RCA company
in TVs.
RCA is the US leading manufacturer of CRT TV
(standard TV).

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) Technology

Project Title: Liquid Crystal Display (LCD): A technology that will revolutionize TV

(LCD) Technology

The problem with CRT: Bulky size, highenergy consumption

The LCD technology has the advantages of
being lightweight--therefore smaller in size-and more energy efficient.
This new technology allows for portability
and low energy use, solving the problem of
having a bulky, energy-consuming CRT
technology.
Product that best utilizes the features of this
new technology is portable (LCD) TV.
Challenges: lower quality

Cost and Schedule:

Impact

LCD technology will disrupt the Cathode Ray

Tube (CRT) Technology, the standard TV
technology
At first, portable LCD TV will replace minicathode ray tube TVs because of lower cost,
higher energy efficiency (battery) &
portability, despite its lower quality
targeted at youth.
In the future, with further research and
development, LCD technology can potentially
disrupt the large screen TV market
