effectiveness of the bus ban


implemented in Manila and
its impact to general commuters
of Quezon City

INTRODUCTION

Traffic is one of the major problems
in the Philippines especially in the
city of Manila.
The traffic became an integrated part
in the city peoples life and
eventually, they learned to live with
it.

Over the years, many had proposed
a possible solution to the citys
dilemma.
Current mayor of Manila, Joseph
Estrada, together with his vice
mayor, Isko Moreno, are the latest
ones who seek possible answer to
the problem.

As of July 23, 2013, the Resolution


No. 48, authored by Councilor Manuel
Zarcal, is implemented.

The traffic in Manila had decreased.
The roads are not blocked with the
buses loading and unloading their
passengers.

The bus ban created a great havoc in
the side of Quezon City.
Banned buses must make a U-turn at
Welcome Rotunda and head back to
Quezon City

Extreme inconvenience with the
commuters and bus operators.
Alternative means of transportation.
Decrease in profit of the bus
operators.

This study is significant in order
to
(1) fully understand the content of
the resolution implemented
regarding the bus ban in Manila;
(2) know the effects of bus ban to the
commuters;

commuters coming from Quezon City.

City before and after the bus ban was

The scope of the study will cover the
analysis of traffic occurring along
Espaa Boulevard.

The survey that will be conducted is
limited to general commuters of
Quezon City
- entering Manila (thru FairviewQuiapo route) who are aware of the
bus ban implementation

morning and afternoon,

oclock in the morning and five
oclock to seven
oclock in the
evening.

3.2 Data Collection


Survey
1200 commuters travelling
southbound lane will be used as sample
Survey time is from 7:00 9:00 am
and 5:00 7:00 pm

Survey will be conducted on Fairview,
Quezon City up to PHILCOA
Other data will be collected from LGUs
(such as MMDA and LTO)

Basic statistical method will be used
