Gated communities usually consist of small residential streets and include various shared
amenities. For smaller communities this may be only a park or othercommon area.
For larger communities, it may be possible for residents to stay within the community for
most daily activities. Gated communities are a type ofcommon interest development, but
are distinct fromintentional communities.
Advantages
Disadvantages
Sterile ghettos for people of the same class, shutting out others,
especially poor.
Give people no exposure to different types of people.
Social contrasts, environmental impact on neighborhood cause huge
resentment
Gated communities are often costly and high maintenance.
As far as security goes, the safety of gated communities is dependent
upon the quality of the system in place, as well as the surrounding areas.
Gated communities are also typically located farther away from
businesses and other services, making the commute a bit longer just to
drive out of your neighborhood every day.
Since only a very small proportion of all nonlocal people passing through
the area are potential criminals, increased traffic should increase rather
than decrease safety by having more people around whose presence
could deter criminal behavior or who could provide assistance during an
incident.

AMENITIES
In general, the larger the association the more amenities that can
be provided. Amenities also depend on the type of housing.
The gated community craze is spreading across towns and cities of India. While
earlier we had these forms of development only in major cities, there is booming
demand now even in smaller towns like Alleppy, Salem, Kolar, Latur etc.

Paras - Kolkata
Parasin Kolkata signify a neighbourhood with a strong sense of
community, and are usually sharply defined on the basis of loyalties
(like which households contribute economically to which public or
"barowari"puja).
Paras culture typically segregate Kolkata communities on the basis of
origin (West Bengal origin "ghotis" versus East Bengal origin "bangals"
there are paras which have names like "prothom bangal para" (first
bangal para)), occupation and socio-economic status (paras have
names like "kumorpara" (potter para)), and sometimes even politics
and religion.
