vs. PARI

Torrent defined
A torrent is a constantly moving file over a large network. typically pirated
movies, torrents work by people downloading a small beginning file, and then
using a program (ie: transmission) to finish it. this program works by
downloading the parts that you don't have from other people doing the same
thing, and uploading the parts that others need.
A file that connects a user to a swarm to download a file. The idea of torrents
are not illegal, but it is mostly used to distribute illegal files. (i.e. music, movies,
video games, etc.)

Kickasstorrent defined
KickassTorrents (sometimes abbreviated KAT) is a website, founded in 2008,
that provides torrent files and magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing
using the BitTorrent protocol. As of November 2014, KAT became the most
visited torrent directory in the world according to the site's Alexa ranking.
With millions of visitors per day KickassTorrents (KAT) is arguably the most
visited torrent site on the Internet, outranking even the notorious Pirate Bay.
After several domain hops KAT has been operating from the KAT.cr domain
name for a few months now.

History of Kickasstorrent
Complies with DMCA and removes infringing torrents reported by owners;
kat.ph, kat.tt, kickass.to, kickass.so, kickasstorrents.im, and kat.cr
blocked as per the order of the High Court ruling that it contributed to
copyright infringement;
kickass.to (global maintenance)

potentially malicious but not blocked

How PARI decided to tackle

Kickasstorrents
Representatives from the governments Intellectual Property Office (IPO),
Optical Media Board (OMB), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the
Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) came together to
reinstate and reaffirm their commitment to curb piracy, illegal camcording and
other IPR violations.
Theme: Movies: A Global Passion
Six months later PARI succeeded in taking down the KAT.ph domain name
through a temporary restraining order; and a cease and desist order issued to
the dotPH for having allowed KAT.ph to go online.

Nature of Kickasstorrent not actually

illegal nor malicious
Torrent is not equal to piracy;
It is the content that makes the act illegal;
Kickasstorrents does not condone illegal activity and encourages the proper
action against those acting criminally;
Risks of piracy is inevitable when producing and uploading something;

When tackling copyright issues

Anyone who find their copyright being abused should seek to fix the problem
without legal involvement;
If this does not work, then, by all means, use the exiting legal proceedings
made for such an instance;
PARI had failed to follow the said process and had not specified what
particular copyrighted properties were pirated.
