Findings of Rescuers

Between August 1, 2015-February 15,

2016 rescuers have found 67 dumped
animals in southern Dallas.

52 dogs
2 horses
2 goats (butchered)
2 cows (butchered)
1 deer (butchered)
1 pig (butchered)
1 bags of chickens/roosters

11 presented with signs

of animal abuse. (16%*)
41 animals were
reported to 311/911.
*The 16% suspected
animal abuse figure more
accurately coincides with
the findings of experts in
the field:

Animal Control picked up over 4,000 dead animals in 2012. The bodies of these animals are simply
disposed of and these cases are generally not investigated, even though Dr. Lockwood has estimated that
twenty percent (20%) of dead animals found on the street may be victims of abuse. Our efforts at counting
cruelty cases will never be accurate so long as these potential abuse cases fall under the radar. - Dr. Randall
Lockwood (2012 Report of the Mayors Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission. Submitted to Mayor
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Baltimore City Council)

Eleven cases of suspected animal

abuse:
1 starved in a locked crate
1- tied and tossed
4 dogfighting/bite wounds and/or
dragging
2 strangled
2 blunt trauma
1 bound legs

Necropsy Finding

Animal ID: A912970

Pit Bull Mix
Necropsy 10/17/15
McManus
He had linear and punctate wounds to his head, forelimbs and
hindlimbs. This occurred premortem based on areas of
hemmorage. [sic] (necropsy notes)
I suspect he died as a result of his wounds. (necropsy notes)
This dog was found with at thick collar and heavy 6 foot chain still
attached to its collar. It was not in a bag but was dumped on the
side of the road at Teagarden and Dowdy Ferry Rd.
Like the previous dog, this dog had puncture wounds to the head
and forelimbs. Dr McManus suspects this dog died of his wounds.
Again bite wounds to the head and forelimbs are indicative of
dogfighting.
Heavy chains and tethering area methods of containing dogs used
in dogfighting to limit their interaction with other dogs and
humans and to systematically de-socialize them to encourage
aggression.
This dog was found with thick mud embedded into its collar and
covering the body from the shoulders down indicating that he was
tethered on a chain that had him standing an lying in mud.
Although five pieces of evidence were present at the scene, none
were held by DPD for investigation. The necropsy only noted the
presence of a collar and chain. No mention of the rope is made.

three slaughters, and three other dogs (2 mummified, 1
fresh)

Necropsy 11/17/15
Betten
Bleeding from left ear and mouth. (necropsy notes)
The dog appears to have suffered severe trauma to the
head which likely lead to instantaneous death.
(necropsy notes)
It is my understanding that this case is currently under
investigation with the DA. (per open records request)
Lucky was adopted from DAS and microchipped as part of DAS
adoption protocol.
Lucky was found November 15 in a garbage bag alongside seven
other animals including four slaughtered animals (pig, deer, cow,
chickens). At the time of the finding, Lucky was still dripping fresh
blood from his nose, mouth and ears as a result of his wounds.
The blood was the same freshness and consistency as the
slaughtered animals Lucky was found with.
A necropsy was performed November 17. Lucky died of severe
trauma to the head inconsistent with car strike leading to
instantaneous death.
Evidence: A bag was found next to the bag that Lucy was found
in. In that bag was a pigs head with a cross carved into the flesh
of the skull, a bag of dog feces and a torn up sheet of first and
last names and corresponding telephone numbers. After much
coercion the Marshal took the bag as evidence. The status of the
investigation is unknown.

This was a dog rate found in the woods tossed over
an embankment beside Teagarden Road.
The photo quality is not great but, the remains inside
the crate (which was locked when found) is that of an
animal. It is unknown if the animal was dead or alive
when it was tossed over the embankment.
Marina Tarashevska found a crate with a LIVE dog in it
in the summer of 2015.

Case No. 218068-2015
Rescuers suspect animal abuse because,
although the body is mummified and shrunken
through decomposition, the rope around the
neck was still too tight to slip a finger through.
Also, not shown in this photo, the bottom half of
this dogs body was missing.

One puppy was found to
have parvo per necropsy. A
necropsy for the second
puppy was not found. Open
wound and de-gloving of
backside of puppy in the
presence of bite wounds
indicate to rescuers that
there was an attack of some
sort. The dogs were fresh
finds (the area had been
scoured that morning and
these dogs were not there.
Rescuers found these dogs
mid-day still wrapped in tarp
which is inconsistent with
them having been
scavenged by wild animals.

This dog was found down over an
embankment in a dog food back tied
with a rope. Although the bag had a
hole in the bottom, no bugs or maggots
were present. When we opened the
bad, the remains were the consistency
of pudding including the organs, but,
not the bones. The skull indicated this
had been a dog. The fact that flies
surrounded the carcass but would not
land on the carcass indicate the
presence of a poison or perhaps lye
solution applied with the intent to
dissolve the body.
