FERTILIZATION
Antenatal Care
A type of preventive healthcare
with the goal of providing
regular check-ups that allow
doctors or midwives to treat and
prevent potential health
problems throughout the course
of the pregnancy while
promoting healthy lifestyles that
benefit both mother and child.
Prenatal Visits
First trimester (1st to 3rd months of
pregnancy)- at least once.
Second trimester (4th to 6th months of
pregnancy) -at least once.
Third trimester (7th to 9th months of
pregnancy) monthly.
Tips to Remember
I will eat a balanced diet and increase my intake of food for energy/
carbohydrates, protein, Vitamin A, folic acid, iron and other nutrients.
I will start breast care in preparation for breastfeeding.
I will make sure to receive TETANUS TOXOID immunization to protect myself
and my baby.
I will sleep inside a treated mosquito net every night if I live or travel in a
malaria endemic area.
I should not smoke, avoid cigarette smoke and not allow smoking inside the
house.
I will practice oral personal hygiene. I will visit my dentist regularly.
I will not resort to self medication nor take drugs and alcohol for this can harm
me and my baby.
I will prepare for possible emergency (money , blood donor nearby blood
center, transportation, and identify a higher referral hospital. I will also
prepare money for newborn screening and other necessities.)
I will have counseling on FP to space my next pregnancy or stop getting
pregnant for I have achieved my desired family size.
EMERGENCY SIGNS:
Swelling of the legs, hands and face.
Severe headache, dizziness, blurring of vision.
Vaginal bleeding or vaginal spotting.
Pallor or anemia
Fever and chills
Vomiting
Fast or difficult breathing
Severe abdominal pain
Vaginal discharge and genital sores
Painful urination
Watery vaginal discharge
Convulsions or loss of consciousness
Absence or reduced fetal movements ( less than 10 kicks in 12
hours in second half of pregnancy.)
Postpartum Care
Within 24 hours
-Rapid assessment and management of
emergency signs (difficulty of breathing, cyanosis, shock,
bleeding, fever, severe abdominal pain, convulsions).
Within 1 week preferably 2-3 days
-Physical examination
- check vaginal bleeding/ foul smelling discharge
check for breastfeeding problems.
- check for danger signs( fever, UTI, perineal pain,
anemia)
At 4-6 weeks
-Physical examination
-Check for danger signs
OPV
dose
OPV produces antibodies in the blood ('humoral'
or serum immunity) to all three types of
poliovirus, and in the event of infection, this
protects the individual againstpolioparalysis by
preventing the spread ofpoliovirusto the
nervous system.
PCV
dose
-3rd dose given 4 weeks after the second
dose
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine(PCV) is
apneumococcal vaccine and aconjugate
vaccineused to protect infants, young children,
and adults against disease caused by the
bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae
(thepneumococcus).
MMR
VITAMIN A supplementation
starting at 6 months (100,000 IU)
- next above 1 year old
(200,000 IU)
- if the child is 24 months up
to 6 years old (200,000 IU) twice a
year
NUTRITION
EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING
-Birth up to 6 months
-at least 8 times in 24 hours
- do not give other foods or fluids

-breastfeeed as often as the child wants.
- give adequate amount of family foods
like rice, camote, potato, fish, chicken,
meat, mongo, pulverized roasted dilis,
milk and yellow vegetables (malunggay,
squash), fruits (papaya, banana). Add
oil or margarine.
- 5 times per day
- feed the baby nutritious snacks like
fruits.
