Introduction

LTE (Long-Term Evolution , commonly marketed as 4G) is a standar

d for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile ph
ones and data terminals. It is based on the GSM/EDGE and UMT
S/HSPA network technologies, increasing the capacity and speed
using a different radio interface together with core network imp
rovements.

LTE Long Term Evolution

1. Introduction:
. Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a project developed by 3GPP and aims to
answer the increasing demand in term of services of mobile commun
ication.
. Standardized starting Rel 8
. LTE-Advanced Standardized starting Rel10 ,assures backward compati
bility with LTE. Assures much higher throughput using new key techni
ques within the RF part.

4. Physical layer

Physical layer details

The Layer 1 is defined in a bandwidth agnostic way, allowing th

e LTE Layer 1 to adapt to various spectrum allocations.
The generic radio frame for FDD and TDD has a duration of 10
ms and consists of 20 slots with a slot duration of 0.5ms. Two a
djacent slots form one sub-frame of length 1ms. A resource blo
ck spans either 12 sub-carriers with a sub-carrier bandwidth of
15kHz or 24 sub-carriers with a sub-carrier bandwidth of 7.5kH
z each over a slot duration of 0.5ms.
An additional framing is defined for TDD owing backward comp
atibility with TD SCDMA

Conclusion

This presentation gives a general idea on lte, waiting in the next presenta
tion more details on LTE principals and Main features: access and tran
smision techniques (TDD, FDD, OFDMA, SC-FDMA, MIMO) and Self-Org
anising Networks (SON -ANR, SON-MLB, SON-MRO)
