Context
The freshmen experience difficulties
in life that either makes them better
or bitter about life. Sometimes these
experiences do not bring any sense to
leading them to turn to bad influences
(vices, bad peers, depression, etc.)
that only makes matters worst. These
influences result to poor decisionmaking and even to more conflicts
among friends and family members.

They are invited to look for healthy

and life-enriching opportunities that
will help them translate their hearts
deepest longings and desires into
creative expressions that will give
meaning and purpose to their lives.
They are further called to look at these
difficulties as rich opportunities to
grow in character and in their
relationship with God as they seek Him
for hope, love and meaning in life.

The Last Parachutes

This is an activity where the
students are confronted with a
moral dilemma to select 10
persons from the list of
passengers who shall be given
parachutes to be saved. (This is an
improvisation of the Fall Out
Shelter Activity.)

Our true characters are made
manifest in difficult moments.
Our choices reflect our hearts
desires.
The things we do are concrete
expressions or manifestations of our
lifes intentions...those things which
matter to us.

Relating to our lesson

Similarly, when Adam and Eve ate
the forbidden fruit, their act
expressed their inner desire to go
beyond Gods moral restriction and
reject their dependence on God.
In the other 3 sin narratives, we shall
encounter inner desires of the
characters involved that were made
manifest in the choices they made
which were contrary to Gods Will for
them.

 At the same time, Gods loving desire

for humankind continues to be seen
in the signs of hope that He gives
them.
The punishments that the characters
experienced were not Gods ways of
abandoning them but the
consequences of their turning away
from others, nature and God.

Church Teachings
For a monumental struggle against
the powers of darkness pervades our
whole human history. The battle was
joined from the very origins of the
world and will continue until the last
day. Caught in this conflict, we are
obliged to wrestle constantly if we are
to cling to what is good. Nor can we
achieve our own integrity without
valiant efforts and the help of grace.

Original sin can be described
as the state in which we are
born as members of the human
race. We are thus situated in a
sinful history that affects our
capacity to love God above all, to
become our true selves, and
achieve our destiny.

Reflecting on our human experience:

If God is all-good, why does he allow
evil to take place?
The origin of evil in the world is
depicted as Adam and Eves sin of
disobedience to Gods command not
to eat of the fruit of the tree of
knowledge of good and bad.
Their act of eating the fruit of the
forbidden tree symbolizes the abuse of
human freedom.

 Their act represents the temptation

to play God, rejecting any
dependence on God by deciding
completely on their own what is
good or bad.
As a result of their sin of
disobedience and pride: they
experienced shame, they were
banished from the garden, entrance
of suffering (mortality), and loss of
intimate union with God.

Reflecting on our human experience:

Temptation makes something bad look

Temptation is any enticement to evil;
any word or activity that incites (leads)
people into any wrongdoing.

 The temptation of Adam and Eve

Temptation itself is not a sin. But
it can lead to sin if we give in to it
and choose to do as we are

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us
in battle be our safeguard against the

bind into hell Satan and all the evil
spirits who prowl about the
world seeking the ruin of souls.

PROBLEM
Throughout the centuries, prejudices
against the existence of the devil have
risen. Some philosophers, sages,
rationalists, scholars, and even theologians
contend that:
The devil's existence is not clearly defined
in the Bible;
Since the devil does not form part of the
central Gospel message, the existence of
demoniac reality no longer has a place in
our faith today; and
The devil is but a mythical or functional
personification.

TRUTH
To deny the existence of the devil is to deny the
infallibility of the Bible. But this is not possible
to deny it because the inerrancy of the Bible, in
part and as a whole, is a dogma of Faith.
The Scripture speaks of angels falling due to sin
willfully committed. This fall consists in the
free choice of these created spirits, who radically
and irrevocable rejected God and His reign. We
find a reflection of that rebellion in the
tempter's words to our first parents: You will be
like God. The devil has sinned from the
beginning; he is a liar and the father of lies.

Original Sin has two realities. It is

the personal sin of our first
parents and the consequences
that we experience today.

Reflecting on our human
experience: What are the usual
excuses we use to reason out or
justify our cause?

a. Sin destroyed the original harmony

that was in the world. The first
humans chose to disobey God and
separate themselves from Him.
b. Sin alienates us from God. Adam
and Eve after disobeying God were
no longer at ease with Gods
presence.

c. Sin alienates us from others. The

couple started blaming each other.
In the beginning, there was order
and harmony in their relationship.
They started to distance from each
other.
d. Sin alienates us from nature. Many
of our human activities bring damage
to our environment and also to our
human bodies.

e. Sin alienates us from ourselves.

Sin brought malice into their
lives. Nakedness is a sign of
shame and vulnerability and loss
of dignity as a person.

The Sacraments of Baptism and

Reconciliation
In Baptism, we are given a white
garment to represent the dignity of
being adopted children of God. While
in the Sacrament of Reconciliation,
we are consciously acknowledge our
sinfulness to the Lord and our firm
desire to change our ways; and to
return to Him with our whole being.

Great Flood and Noah (Gen. 6-9:17)

Is a story of the consequences of
a world that has become too evil. God
is totally opposed to evil and sin. God
loves the sinner but hates sin. God
brings flood into the earth. He
destroys and cleanses evil.
Ark- symbol of Gods salvation
Rainbow- symbol of his eternal
promise never to destroy the world
again by flood.

After the flood the whole creation

was renewed. God acted upon natural
catastrophe to achieve his saving plan.
Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9)
People did not learn the lessons
of destruction that occurred in Noahs
time. Slowly sin crept into the world
again.

This story shows how arrogant

the early people were. They build a
tower to make a name for themselves
instead of respecting God.
Humans can become like God
when they cooperate freely with Gods
gift of grace and never rejecting nor
abandoning God as creator everything
will be alright.
The division among people is
seen a constant dispute of the citizens
of a country and of different nations.

Each nation naturally places its

interests ahead of the others and this
causes all kinds of economic and social
problems to the extent of having
armed conflicts.
Our class can also be a good
example for this. There arrogant
students inside who are only concern
of protecting their own interests
directly or indirectly which eventually
will cause misunderstanding among
classmates.
