What is Piping :
Piping is a system of pipes used to convey
fluids (liquids and gases) from one location
to another.
The engineering discipline of piping design
studies the efficient transport of fluid.

Piping Manufactured Types : For Industrial Process Piping,

1. wood, used in ancient time.
2. fiberglass, used for underground utility piping.
3. glass, used for chemical laboratory.
4. steel, commonly used in process oil and gas industry.
5. aluminium, resistance to corrosion.
6. plastic, used for drinking water, waste water,,,etc.
7. copper, used for refrigerant tubing,,etc.
8. concrete, used for storm water drainage and sewer.

Piping Standards :
ASME - The American Society of Mechanical Engineers - B31 series

ASME B31.1 Power piping (steam piping etc.)

ASME B31.3 Process piping
ASME B31.4 Pipeline Transportation Systems for Liquid Hydrocarbons
and Other Liquids
ASME B31.5 Refrigeration piping and heat transfer components
ASME B31.8 Gas transmission and distribution piping systems
ASME B31.9 Building services piping
ASME B31.11 Slurry Transportation Piping Systems (Withdrawn,
Superseded by B31.4)
ASME B31.12 Hydrogen Piping and Pipelines

ASTM - American Society for Testing and Materials

ASTM A252 Standard Specification for Welded and Seamless Steel Pipe
Piles[7]

API - American Petroleum Institute

API 5L Petroleum and natural gas industriesSteel pipe for pipeline
transportation systems[8]

Piping Engineering Discipline :

Generally, industrial piping engineering has three major
subfields:

Piping material

Piping design

Stress analysis

Project Type :
Green Field
Brown Field
Revamp

Isometric :
An isometric drawing for a piping system is a detailed
orthographic drawing.
The isometric drawing represents the details of the 3D structure
of the pipe in the form of a 2D diagram.
A design drawing which is used in pipe fabrication and
installation.

Steps in layout Isometric Drawing :

1. Line Number
2. North Direction
3. Line dimension and coordinates
4. Identification of Field weld and Shop weld
5. Spool mark number
6. Weld Map
7. Identification of Fitting and Valves part number
