RAW WATER SYSTEM - GA

SUGEN Project

The function of the raw water supply system GA is to take

water from the raw water reservoirs and transfer it to the Raw
Water and DM Clarifiers. After the raw water is clarified it is
routed by gravity to the clarifier raw water storage tanks
where it is stored and distributed to its end user.
River water is transferred from Intake well to reservoir by
pumps. Two pumps are provided in intake well (2x100%) and
each capacity is 1550 cu.m/hr.
Capacity of reservoirs is 2 x 60,000 cu.m.
Raw water is transferred from raw water reservoirs via a free
flowing Glass Reinforced Plastic line to the raw water pump
basin. An additional bypass line provided directly from Tapi
River to raw water pump basin in emergency.

RAW WATER SYSTEM - GA

SUGEN Project

There are 3 x 50% raw water pumps provided to transfer the

water from raw water sump to the water treatment plant (GB and
GC clarifiers). Each raw water pump capacity is 685 cu.m/hr.
A cleaning rake screen is installed upstream of the pumps to
protect the pumps and clarifiers against debris from the Tapi River
water.
After the raw water is clarified and treated in the water treatment
plant, it flows by gravity to the storage tanks GAD11/12 and
transferred to GAD20 by pumps, where it is stored and distributed
to the subsequent systems.
The effluent from the clarifier and the overflow line from the
clarified main raw water storage tanks GAD11/12 is routed by
gravity in one common line to the guard pond.
Two Main Raw Water Clarifiers 2 x 650 cu.m/hr
One DM Raw Water Clarifier 32 cu.m/hr

CLARIFIED RAW WATER

SUGEN Project

The function of clarified main raw water storage tanks

(GAD11/12) is distribute to
1. Fire Fighting System (SGA)
2. CT makeup (PAR)
3. Service Water Distribution System (GHD)
For dilution purposes at the guard pond the isolation valves
00GAD11/12AA402 are operated manually.
Total Capacity is 2 x 6500 m3.
Capacity for fire fighting system is 950 m3.
The function of clarified DM raw water storage tanks (GAD20)
is distribute to water treatment demineralization plant.
Total Capacity is 400 m3.

RAW WATER TREATMENT

SUGEN Project

Sodium hypochlorite (biocide) chemical is dosed at discharge of raw

water pumps.
Sulphuric Acid chemical is dosed at discharge of raw water pumps.
The raw water after adding of above chemicals is transferred to mixing
chamber of GB01, GB02 and GC clarifiers. Alum is dosed in mixing
chamber.
Raw water overflows from mixing chamber to coagulation tank. Alum
chemical solution is added in this tank.
Raw water enters from bottom of coagulation tank to flocculation tank.
Polyelectrolyte chemical solution is added in this tank.
Raw water enters from flocculation tank to tube settler through
distribution chamber. In tube settler, Sludge will settle down and
clarified water flows to flushing water basin and collect in common
sump and flows to clarified water storage tanks by gravity. (But
clarified water from GC clarifier will transfer from sump to storage tank
by pumps).

RAW WATER TREATMENT

SUGEN Project

Sludge is transferred from clarifiers to sludge storage tank by

pumps (GB01,GB02 and GC). Polyelectrolyte solution is dosed at
inlet, outlet of storage tank and also directly in storage tank.
1. Three sludge transfer pumps are provided for GB01 clarifier At
Ground Floor
2.Three sludge transfer pumps are provided for GB01 clarifier At
Ground Floor
3.Two sludge transfer pumps are provided for GC clarifier At
Ground Floor
This sludge is transferred from sludge storage tank to chamber
filter press by sludge transfer pumps. Sludge collects at bottom in
trolleys and filtrate water flows to raw water clarifiers through
waster water basin.
Dilute Hydrochloric acid is dosed for pH correction of filtrate water.
