Section A – Question 1a) –

Structuring and Practice


SHAK - Question 1a
Asks you to describe and evaluate your skills development over
your practical production units – from Foundation to Advanced. You are
also allowed to include any relevant skills development you gained
outside the media course – extra-curricular projects.

The question will ask you to consider your skill development in terms of
one or two of the following areas:

• Digital Technology
• Creativity
• Research and Planning
• Post-Production
• Using conventions from real media texts.
Sample Question:
1a) “Digital technology turns media consumers into media
producers.” In your own experience how has your
creativity developed through using digital technology to
complete your coursework productions?

Candidates will need to refer to their work for the


foundation AND the portfolio units.

Explanation/analysis/argument (9-10marks)
There is a clear sense of progression established by the
answer, and a range of articulate reflections on the
production process are offered.

Candidates offer a broad range of specific, relevant and
clear examples that are suitable to the question

Use of Terminology (5 Marks)


The use of both production terms and conceptual media
terminology applied throughout is excellent.

How Long Should it be?
• Think of it as 25% of your mark and
therefore something that takes 25% of
your exam time. (30 mins)

• Exactly how much is written is not so


important as long as you answer the
question with a clear structure and
examples.
Structure?
• Introduction – outlining how you will answer the question:
- What areas are you addressing? (What is the question really asking)
- How did you learn about these areas in your production process?
- What main parts of your productions will you cover?

- Conclusion – Sum up skills development in the areas asked by the
