Qualitative method- Series of interviews using semistructured questions to help the researcher study the
area more openly and express their opinions.

developers and suppliers

Background (250 words)


Construction industry plays an important role in the
Malaysian economy. On of the major party of the industry
is transportation and in order to increase the productivity
implementation of supply chain management is essential.
As the construction industry involves a lot of stakeholders
it is difficult to implement and change in the current
practices. Therefore the researcher what to find the role
of management leadership in creating a change for
innovation.

Management Leadership
Term management leadership refers to the involvement
of top management to inform employees that business
survival depends upon adapting supply chain to be
flexible to customers needs.
Management leadership in the strategic management
process will consider decentralization of operations,
global outsourcing and strategic alliance with partners
to achieve flexibility, speed, proactivity and reduces
time to market.

Research Objective/ Hypothesis

To find if the application of supply chain management in
the construction industry can improve the performance.
Study the role of management leadership in creating a
change for innovation in the industry.

There were some barriers that the researcher faced that had to be overcome
to make the raw data can be stably, coherently and validly interpreted.
The 4 barriers were:
1. Understand the response structure
2. Issue of non-linearity
3. Undimensionality
4. Constructing operationalization and internal consistency of terms
The model used was Modern Theory Rasch Measurement Method: a simple
mathematical model that constructs abstract linear measures from the
concrete raw data.

Research Methodology (200 words)


The study first reviewed the present situation of SCM in
other industries and then investigated how it can be
applied to the construction industry.
Primary data was collected from field surveys from
contractors, developers and suppliers.
Secondary data mainly came from books, reports,
seminar papers, periodicals and government
publications.

Findings (300 words)


Developers had high level of adoption for Management
leadership and the constitute 47.17% of the industry
Level of practice for Management leadership was
reasonably common among the industry 58.9%

Conclusions (200)
Ability to move quickly is becoming a competitive requirement in the
construction industry and the industry has been slow in adapting to innovation
and radical changes. Thus the leadership of the industry should play a crucial
role in change initiative.
The study summarizes the important leadership factors in the construction
industry as follow:
1. Successful leadership in construction industry does not follow a standard
format. A positive influence of leadership in one situation can be a negative in
the other.
2. Successful leadership has to do with having the right people within the
networks and works within.
3. Having the right timing is essential for being a successful leader.
4. Being a successful leader in the construction industry differs between regions
and cultures.
