Group Activity: Group Size 3 to 4
Each group should have one sheet of paper titled,

People with good attitudes,

on which they write the word, ATTITUDE, going down
the left side. For the first part of this activity, student
groups will think of all the characteristics of a person
with a good attitude within 3 minutes. They should
write those characteristics in sentences that begin
with each letter of the word ATTITUDE, as in this
example:
A: Always sees the best in people and situations.
T: Totally content with what they have.
T: Takes time to stop and smell the roses.

Now assign at least 3 of these questions to each student group:

1.List someone you know who consistently has a positive attitude. Why

do they?

2. List someone you know who consistently has a negative attitude.

What things in their life cause this negative attitude?

3.How can you have a good attitude, even when things arent going

your way?

4.Does a good attitude depend on the amount of luck youve had

recently? Why?

5.If you could, what circumstances would you like to change in your life

to help you have a better attitude?

6.People with good attitudes enjoy life more than

people with negative attitudes. Why?

7.If a friend has a negative attitude about everything,

what are three things you can do to help them change

their attitude?
8.What are three ways to avoid or overcome a

negative attitude when you cant control a negative

environment or bad circumstances?

Game: End-of-the-World Debate

Two players are in a debate. Both players represent

the same person, only one is in the midst of hard

times and the other is debating from the
future.
When the first player says "I lost my job, I'm never
going to find another one that pays me what I'm
worth, this is terrible." The character from the future
can say "You found a better job and got paid more."
The purpose of the game is to find positive outcomes
for situations that may seem negative. Like the
saying goes; as one door closes, another one opens.

Interview Script 1 (Positive):
Good morning, my name is [Mr. or Ms.] _______________________ and I will be

conducting your interview this morning.

Extend your hand to shake hands with the applicant.
Please have a seat.
We are interviewing for the position of a restaurant host/hostess. We are

looking for someone with good customer service and communication skills,
someone who is dependable and gets along with others. This person will be the
first person to greet guests when they come into our restaurant, so it is very
important to us that the host displays a positive and welcoming attitude.
Now, I have some questions to ask you.

Activity : Role Play

INTERVIEWEE SCRIPT (Negative)2
This version of the interview should be over-

the-top bad. The candidate should be

dressed inappropriately, wearing sunglasses,
chewing gum, displaying poor posture,
disorganized, late, etc.
In fact, the interviewee doesnt pay attention
when the interviewer begins and doesnt
realize that the interviewer offered to shake
hands because he/she was too busy putting a
cell phone in his/her pocket.
