Key Goals of the Phil.

environmental month

Draw attention to pressing

environmental issues in the hope that it
will eventually compel more people to
be more pro-active or at least be mindful
of how they make use of our natural
resources.
Be mindful is the key in helping our
ailing mother earth. Common Property
based on Phil. Context is the one most
abused

Key Goals of the Phil.

environmental month

Common property, e.g., Laguna Lake

treating it involves a lot of responsibility.
If it was your property, you have in a
way a right to abuse it , but if it is a
common property, you have the utmost
responsibility to take care of it beause
there will be someone else who will be
disadvantaged by your abuse. (That
should be the new paradigm in viewing
common property in the Philippines)

Key Goals of the Phil.

environmental month

Common property should be taken cared

of, you are not there to use it, you are
not there to own it, you are basically
there as steward, and there will be
generations after generations who will
come after you to benefit from it. That
view should be inculcated in the minds of
the people especially in the Philippines

Popes encyclicals

Points made clear in encyclicals

are the most authoritative
teaching documents a pope can

The gradual depletion of
the ozone layer and
green house effect has
now reached crisis
proportions as a
consequence of
industrial growth,
massive urban
concentrations and
vastly increased energy
needs

Industrial waste, burning fossil
fuels, unrestricted
deforestation, the use of
certain types of herbicides,
coolant, and propellants: all of
these are known to harm the
atmosphere and environment.
The resulting meteorological
and atmospheric changes
range from damage to health
to the future submersion of
low lying lands.

Pope Paul VI 1967
Encyclical (Popularum

Peoples)
While creation is for man to
use, the goods of the earth
are meant to be shared by
all, not just the rich
No one may appropriate
surplus goods solely for his
own private use when
others lack the bare
necessities of life.

because he took concrete
action to back his strong
ecological calls
Under his watch the Vatican

unit for its main cafeteria

project aimed at offsetting
its CO2 emissions. .
