HOW ARE ENDANGERED ANIMALS

PROTECTED?
The CITES is an international agreement between governments to ensure
that trade between countries does not affect endangered animals. It is a
voluntary agreement is not an international law and countries only sign if
you will.
171 countries have signed the CITES.
The main concern for the CITES ivory trade is that most people believe to
be illegal, but it is not, as there are nations that permit by law and are not
concerned that endanger the survival of the elephants. For example ,
South Africa allows a certain amount of hunting of elephants, and has
sold much ivory to Japan.
So this year's CITES meeting wants to give more importance to the
protection for elephants, as well as other species such as swordfish, cedar
and corals.
