Customer self repair (CSR)
Instructions for removal and replacement are provided to
the customer
EVA4400 is considered CSx (Customer Self Install,

Customer Self Upgrade, and Customer Self Repair)

2 23

U4879S L.01 2011 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

Customer self repair

(1 of 2)

CSR is an effort to improve product serviceability by allowing

customers to perform hardware fault monitoring, diagnosis,

and repair
Replacement part is sent to customer instead of using HP
onsite service
All customer self repair (CSR) units purchased prior to February
2007 are optional (no charge for HP replacement) rather than
mandatory (charge for HP travel/labor); as of February 2007, all
EVAs sold have mandatory CSR
HP EVA warranty includes support for CSR
For EVAs with a warranty entitlement start date of 12
February 2007 or later, customers may ask HP Services to
replace replaceable units (RUs) or perform a firmware
upgrade of the disk drives for an additional charge
Customers who purchase an HP EVA support agreement
have the option to perform CSR or receive on-site support
2 24

U4879S L.01 2011 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

Customer self repair

(2 of 2)

Many EVA controller and drive enclosure components are ready

for customer self repair (CSR)

Port (purple) handle on component means it is hot-swappable,

for example, fan, power supplies, and batteries

Alloy (gray) handle on component means it is warm-swappable,

for example, controllers

Slate blue handle on component means it is cold-swappable,

for example, the drive enclosure mid-plane

Directional arrows are on handles
Some tabs are lift-and-pull while others are pull-down and pull-

out
For any component, the replacement pattern is

Verify component failure

Remove and replace the defective component
Verify proper operation
