Google uses people analytics to drive innovation

In high-tech firms, conventional wisdom holds that product R&D drives


innovation which then drives business results.Google recognizes that
proper people management decisions ultimately move the needle on
innovation, since you have to have the right talent in R&D in the first
place. Once you hire them, you also need to make sure they are managed
and rewarded appropriately in order keep them engaged and, well, to
keep them at all.
People management decisions at Google are heavily based on data and
analytics. For example, Project Oxygen was launched in 2009 to mine
large amounts of internal data in order to quantify what effective
managers do. They discovered eight key behaviors that distinguished
effective managers from less effective ones. Then, they integrated these
learnings into a management training program and showed a
demonstrable improvement in manager quality.

Business case: Realizing that the FMCG company


needed more than just recommendations, TCS
prepared a detailed business case for the HR
shared service model and HRIS to accelerate
implementation. The business case covered both
cost and benefits over a five year period, and
included net savings, Net Present Value (NPV),
Internal Rate of Return (IRR), cash flow, and
breakeven points. The team developed more than
six different business case scenarios based on
various conditions, allowing the company to
reasonably predict the outcome of the
implementation.
