Current Ugandan Cement Standard

Kenya adopted new comprehensive cement standard US

310-1:2001 Composition, specifications and conformity
criteria for common cements in year 2002.
The above standard replaced the earlier standards US 108 &
US 63 for OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) & PPC (Portland
Pozzolana Cement) respectively.
The development of this standard was necessitated by the
need to harmonizing requirements governing the quality of
products & services in East Africa, COMESA and
internationally (European Norms).
US 310-1:2001 is based on European Standard EN 197-1
and is also harmonized as a East African Standard EAS 18-1.

Why the new Ugandan standard?

Easier cement identification and properties from the

label.
All Ugandan Cement manufacturers comply with the US
310-1 standard. Local cement, international quality!
Optimization of use of extenders - pollution reduction
during cement prod./extension of quarry life
Easier comparison for the competitive local and export
market
Wide range of product flexibility - opportunity for
customer need based product

Cement for Soil Stabilization

Cement to be suitable for stabilization of soil should

have :
Good cohesion and binding property
Longer setting time, to allow more time for application.
Normal strength development (not fast development
as in OPC)
Good workability.
The Uganda General Specifications for Road and
Bridge Works Section 3800 specifies cement for
stabilization as per US 310-1:2001.
It gives clear guidelines for selection of the stabilizing
agent based on the fineness and plasticity index of the
soil.

What HIMA offers for stabilization?

Hima Cement produces its MULTIPURPOSE

Brand Portland Pozzolana Cement CEM II /
B-P 32,5N, which is most suitable for soil
stabilization.
It is being successfully used on the 3 ongoing
road projects in Kasese & Fort Portal districts
(Lot 7,8 & 9).
