Global Palm Oil

Production

Why is this resource at risk?

Palm oil is at risk in many countries due to colossal amount of

deforestation.
Palm oil productions has another factor at risk. Due to this
massive amount of deforestation for palm oil, animals living in this
habitat are starting to become extinct.
Palm oil is essential for the economy. (Economies reply on trade)
Trees and forests are vital in the production of oxygen.
Deforestation releases large volumes of climate warming gases
into the atmosphere.
Because people are growing it and also
at great speeds. This also means that the
the resource is not being used sustainably

Why is this resource at

risk ?
Indonesias tropical rainforests are among the
worlds most diverse. They have many
endangered animals living there and if the
habitats of these species die then they may
become extinct. The Indonesian government has
announced plans to convert approximately 18
million more hectares of rainforests into palm oil
plantations by 2020. This is very bad for the
environment and also the carbon cycle of Earth.

Is this resource being

managed in any way?

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)-is an organization to help

control the amount of deforestation.
RSPO is currently the largest sustainability-focused organization within the
palm oil sector, however its standards do not ban deforestation or
destruction of peat lands for the development of oil palm plantations.
This resource is not being managed and rainforests are being cut down
further more by the order of the Indonesian government.
There are many organizations that try and reduce the deforestation and try
to help make sure the resource is being used sustainably but they are very
successful.
