About Mamata Infosys Foundation

Implementation: How activities take place

Identification
The employees are invited to join the CSR
activities mainly through mail
Team Selection
Interested employees are briefed and
trained
Execution
Then volunteering lasts for about 1-2 days

Issues

Employees
Since the attrition rate is high, some of the employees who
are familiar with the CSR activities leave
it is difficult to replace a dedicated employee.
It is a problem to train new employees again

Funding
Difficulty in getting the funding - There were a few ideas that
were rejected like setting up a mobile clinic for the nearby
hospitals.

Management
Lack of support from the management for capital intensive
projects.
Willing to donate time but not money kind of attitude that
is present among the IT Companies

Stage of CSR it represents:

Infosys creates a shared value for itself as well as the society
How Infosys benefits: Impact on Employees ( Interview with employee )
Helps as a team
building exercise

Relieves employees
from work stress

Position itself as an
attractive employer
and create value for
itself

It can be considered to
be in the strategic
stage

Why this kind of CSR works for Infosys:

All the employees are fragmented into small teams and each team is
assigned their respective client. So at any point there are some
employees who are available at the required time

Experience while talking to an NGO ( Helping Hearts )

We spoke to the NGO Helping Hearts which runs
a childrens and old age home.
Looking into the efforts they are making, we
realize that under the current CSR policy it is not
possible for them to focus on activities that are
continuous like taking ownership of a hospital.
Typical NGOs face problems like getting
government permits like building, fire safety,
sanitation certificates and facing monthly audits.
As Mamata foundation does not have a full time
work force and relies on volunteering, it does not
want to get into continuous activities and neither
it has the time so it sticks with volunteering

CSR in the Indian IT Industry

IT companies are very serious about their CSR activities, their ratings, their area of focus on
CSR activities and their disclosures about their budget allocation towards CSR and
disclosure on websites and annual report

How
The large corporate IT houses were rapidly moving from the Engaged stage to the Integrated stage
They realize that by giving members of the community training, skills, techniques and tools to create social
and economic opportunities, CSR programs can transform communities and allow business to grow
Almost all companies are working on promoting education or vocational skills, according to a report released by industry
group Nasscom and Boston Consulting Group
The average CSR spend of the industry is very low at 0.9% - but this excludes contribution through employee volunteering
programmes, which is the mode adopted by 83% of the companies
