Q4

NGMN Trial Group Activities during 2009/2010 (2/2)

NGMN focus for 2009/10 is on implementation:

trials, IOT, terminals, operational excellence, security
There is a continuous high expectation on LSTI
In essence, the NGMN operators will
prepare for decisions and implementations
look forward to further meaningful results from PoC and IOT
continue to assess maturity of LTE to avoid implementations plans
based on wrong assumptions as in case of UMTS
NGMN will
continue to facilitate a rich e2e ecosystem with terminals, infrastruc
ture from multiple vendors
keep the momentum behind LTE and convince the industry for inve
stments

The scoring card to LTE network vendors is

taken as the 7-dimension rating of Garter to
the current mainstream vendors LTE product
service, market insight, product strategy,
regional market strategy, market tactic,
market response ability and overall
survivability, which shows the products and
comprehensive strength of LTE vendors and
can be the important reference of equipment
selection for operators.

What Is MIMO?

MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple output)

A set of techniques that rely on the use of multiple antennas at

the receiver and/or transmitter. It can be used to achieve impro
ved system capacity and improved coverage area.

Solution of Reducing Interference Margin ICIC

The frequency planning of LTE includes three models:

Reuse 3

Reuse 1

FFR

Reuse 1 achieves high spectrum efficiency. However, it suffers from very high interference
from other cells, especially at cell edge. The interference margin is high in reuse 1.

The interference margin of reuse 3 is lower than reuse 1 due to different frequency resources.
However, Reuse 3 decreases severely the overall spectrum efficiency.

FFR: Reuse one at cell centers combined with reuse three at cell edges. The interference
margin of FFR is similar to reuse 3, especially at cell edge.
