History of nanyang style

First attempt to define the NANYANG

STYLE were made by art historians ,

REDZA PIYADASA and T.K.
This study tribute to NANYANG
ACADEMY of FINE ARTS NAFA.
Practiced by migrant chinese
painters in Singapore.

 The Nanyang artists had set the

ground work for more serious

questions to be asked regarding
artistic identity in later decades.

and the stylised figure types created
by the late Cheong Soo-pieng

TAI
Who inspired the Nanyang School of ART.
Graduated-Provincial Art Teachers

Training in Fuzhou 1916.

Amoy Art Teachers College.
Came to Singapore 1937-Japan war
Conferred PINGAT JASA GEMILANG
(meritorious award).
1st artist to be conferred award by
Singapore Government.
Died on 14 February 1963 cause lung
cancer.
