Methods of Sterilization
A. Chemical--- use of 70% alcohol
--- use of Clorox
--- use of antibacterial soap
Types of Sterilization;
Antisepticex. Benzalconium choride
disinfectantex. 70% alcohol
Fumigantex. Formalin
Example of sterilizing chemicals used in
the salon:
Ethyl alcohol >> used as disinfectant or antiseptic
Chlorine >> is used as a bleaching agent & as a
germicide
Hydrogen peroxide >> is used as a germicide,
cleansing agent & mild antiseptic
Lunula/Half moon
> Located at the base of the nail
>The matrix located underneath the lunula
> The light color if the lunula maybe due to
the reflection of light where the matrix and the
connective tissue of the nail bed joined.
Condition that affects the Nails
1. Brittle nails/split nails
2. Physical injury
3. Excessive rubbing
4. Age affects the condition of the nail

Safety rules
1. Keep all containers covered and labeled.
2. Use dry hand to hold in more containers.
3. Handle sharp pointed implements and avoid
dropping them.
4. Dull over sharpened cutting edge of sharp
implements with an emery board.
5. Bevel a sharp nail edge with an emery board.
6. Dont file too sharp on into nail corners.
7. Dont use sharp pointed implements to cleanse
under the nail.
8. Apply anti septic if the skin is accidentally cut.
9. Avoid pushing the cuticle back too far.
10. Do not work on a nail that is deceased or
contains pus.
Steps:
1. Wash your hand with anti bacterial soap.
2. Quit and direct client to the chair.
3. Direct the client to sit behind the table.
4. Adjust the table into position.
Manicure Procedure:
Post service :
1. Make another appointment.
2. Sell retail products.
3. Clean up around the table.
4. Sanitize the table.
Purpose:
1. To remove dry, dull & dead skin
2. Moisturizes the hands & into young & soft
skin
Conditions of the hands:
1. Super callus
2. Normal skin
3. Dry skin
After service maintenance program:
1. Frequent salon visit twice a month
2. 2-3x application of hand lotion
Purpose
1. To remove callus.
2. To soften skin.
3. To remove dry, dull and dead skin cells.
Condition of the Foot
1. Normal (once a month).
2. Dry (once a month).
3. With abrasions or cuts (no. of ingrown
toenails).
4. With fungal infection (cannot be
contagious).
5. With open wounds- wait till it heals.
