TEST
 Test is a measuring device for
assessing the achievement of the
objectives in a training system.
 It is a set of questions for which
there is an accepted set of correct
answers.
 The characteristics of test may be
knowledge, ability, attitude,
intelligence etc,.
PURPOSE OF TEST
 To assess the progress towards the goal or
objectives or the training.
 To compare the performance of a trainee
with the standard group.
 To improve trainee’s self understanding
and motivation.
 To diagnose the weakness of the trainees
in certain area.
 To promote grade or rate of the trainees.
 To assess the standard of instruction or
curriculum.

formula, symbols, etc,.

THINKING & REASONING ABILITY
Working principle, functions, operation,
comparison, differences, advantages,
disadvantages, relations, effects, cause,
purposes, uses etc,.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Fault finding, solution judging, remedies,
solving problems, evaluating, analyzing
etc,.
Example:-
 What is the fault in CNC machine, if the
tool is not moving in y-axis?
 What remedy can be applied?
SHORT ANSWER (S.A.TYPE)
 Short answer items are supply items.
 The candidates are expected to
supply the answer.
 It must have only one specific
answer.
 The answer should not be more than
10 words.
 Essay type questions can be narrow
downed into number of short answer
questions.

CRITERIA FOR M.C. TYPE TEST ITEM
 Stem sets context unambiguously and specifically.
 Only the key is a correct response, no distractors vaguely
correct.
 Key must not be much longer than the distractors.
 Key should not be different in context or wording.
 ‘All the above’, ‘none of the above’ should be avoided.
 Key and distractors must be nearly identical.
 Distractors must be plausible.
 No clues in wording like ‘always / never’ etc.
 If the stem is in the form of a question, it should end with
question mark (?). The alternatives should start with
capital letters.
 If the stem is in the form of an incomplete sentence, the
stem should end with no punctuation. The alternatives
should start with small letter and end with period (.).

 It is another variation of multiple choice
type.
 In this type also one has to select the
correct answer from the alternatives /
choices provided.
 Since there are no distractors, it is much
easier than multiple choice type.
 Matching items are useful to test
homogeneous element with simple
relationship.
