Introduction
Jio, also known as Reliance Jio and officially as
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL)

Formerly known as Infotel Broadband Services


Limited, Jio will provide 4G services on a pan-India
level using LTE technology.

The telecom leg of Reliance Industries Ltd, it was


incorporated in 2007 and is based in Mumbai, India.

The services were beta launched to Jio's partners and


employees on 83rd birth anniversary of late DhiruBhai
Ambani, were launched commercially on 5 September,
2016.

Key Developments
Transitioning the mass market to digital continues to
present a major challenge for India;

Bharti Airtel allocated an investment of INR 600 billion


for the upgrade of its pan-Indian network over the next
three years under Project Leap

Vodafone signed an agreement to acquire cable


broadband provider YOU Broadband.

Indias telecom minister confirmed that the government


has no plans to disinvest MTNL and BSNL.
