Analysis
The previous slide demonstrated a need or gap to be
filled. In order to determine if there is a need to be filled
by an instructional course it is essential to begin with a
thorough analysis.
Analysis may entail a needs analysis, task analysis,
needs assessment, and learners analysis.
The analysis will be utilized to determine if the proposed
course supports the mission of the college.

Questions to be answered during

the analysis phase
What problem exists or what change is being
requested?
Who is being asked to change?
What is currently taking place?
Who identified the problem or is requesting the change?
Is instruction the most appropriate means for bringing
about the desired change?
What is the solution to be developed or implemented?

instruction has been implemented to assess whether the goals, objective, and overall
outcomes of the course have been met.
A major goal of a summative evaluation is to gather data that allows evaluators to
determine if the instruction brought about the desired changes and were the goals of
the client met.
The results of a summative evaluation is typically described in a formal report
highlighting the impact of the instructional intervention.
The summative evaluation report will often include a cost / benefit analysis of
implementing the instruction and recommendations on improvements, modifications,
and whether or not the instruction should be continued.
