Rizal Goes to Hongkong
Reasons for leaving Europe:
1. life was unbearable in Europe due to his political differences with M.H. del Pilar
and other Filipinos in Spain.
2. to lead Propaganda Movement in Hongkong.
3. to be near his beloved Philippines and Family.
October 18, 1891 - Marseilles to Hongkong on board of S.S. Melbourne
80 first class passengers.
November 20, 1891 - arrived in Hongkong
welcomed by Jose Ma. Basa at No. 5 D'Aguilar Street, No.2 Rednaxela Terrace

Dr. Ariston Bautista Lin - from Paris, sent him a congatulatory letter.
Dr. H Virchow - sent him a book, Diagnostic Pathology

Don Antonio Vergel de Dios - offered him his services for the purchas of
medical books & instruments which he might need in profession

BORNEO COLONIZATION PROJECT


- the establishment of a Filipino colony in Borneo.
April, 1892 - he went to Borneo to negotiate.
Borneo willing to give the Filipino colonists 100,000 acres of land, a beautiful
harbor, and a good government to 999 years, free of all charges.
Juan Luna, Antonio Luna, Lopez Jaena, Blumentritt, Dr. Bautista Lin - join
Borneo Colonization Project.
Manuel Hidalgo - objected the project.

DECISION TO RETURN TO MANILA


Decision To Return To Manila
May, 1892
1. To confer with Governor Despujol regarding his Borneo Colonization Project.
2. to established the Liga Filipina in Manila
3. To proved that Eduardo de Lete was wrong in attacking him in Madrid that he (Rizal),
being comfortable and safe in Hongkong, had abandoned the country's cause.
Relatives and Friends opposed his decision to return home.
He spend his 31st bday in Hongkong
June 20 , he wrote two letters which he sealsed, inscribe on each envelope "To be
opened after my death" and gave them to his friend Dr. Marquez.
June 21, 1892 - another letter to Despujol,
- Rizal and his sister Lucia left Hongkong for Manila
- Rizal falls into Spanish Trap.
