Flood Risk Indexing and

Mapping of Catarman (Pob.),
Northern Samar (2016)

Flood Risk Indexing and Mapping of

Catarman (Pob.), Northern Samar
(2016)

RATIONALE:

THE FLOOD RISK INDEX AND MAPPING CAN BE USED AS A TOOL TO ASSESS THE ENVIRONMENT OF
CATARMAN (POB.) AREA AND GIVE ASSISTANCE TO THE RESIDENTS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS IN
DETERMINING WHICH AREAS ARE MOST AT RISK DURING FLOODING. IT CAN ALSO BE USED TO DETERMINE
THE DIFFERENT FACTORS THAT CAN AFFECT THE RISK OF DAMAGE TO PROPERTIES.
THE RESULTS ALLOW RATING, IDENTIFYING, AND COMPARING CRITICAL ZONES, AS WELL AS SIMULATING THE
IMPACT OF FLOOD CONTROL MEASURES OR OTHER SCENARIOS, INCLUDING LAND USE CHANGE, SEA LEVEL
RISE, AMONG OTHERS.
THIS STUDY WILL:

BENEFIT THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT, CAN BE USED AS A DATA TO FUTURE PROJECTS
SERVE AS A BASIS FOR FUTURE RESEARCHERS
ENHANCE KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENTS IN FLOOD VULNERABILITY AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

Objective:
Determine flood related data of barangays inside the Catarman (pob.) area.
Evaluate the vulnerability, exposure, and hazards of each barangay.
Identify barangays that are highly vulnerable to flood risk.
Determine the different factors that can affect the risk of damage to
properties.

A MIXTURE OF SHREDDED SCRAP TIRE

AND SOIL AS A LIGHTWEIGHT BACKFILL
OF HIGHWAY RETAINING WALL

A MIXTURE OF SHREDDED SCRAP TIRE

AND SOIL AS A LIGHTWEIGHT BACKFILL OF
HIGHWAY RETAINING WALL
RATIONALE:
Scrap tires are being produced and accumulated in large
volumes causing an increasing threat to the environment. In
order to eliminate the negative effect of these depositions and
in terms of sustainable development there is great interest in
the recycling of these non-hazardous solid wastes.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

EXAMINE THE EFFECTS OF A MIXTURE OF SHREDDED SCRAP

TIRE AND SOIL AS A LIGHTWEIGHT BACKFILL OF HIGHWAY

RETAINING WALL.
PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE USE OF SHREDDED
SCRAP TIRE FOR FIELD IMPLEMENTATION

PROPOSED NEW NORTHERN

SAMAR PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL
WITH GREEN BUILDING DESIGN

PROPOSED NEW NORTHERN SAMAR

PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL WITH GREEN
BUILDING DESIGN
RATIONALE:
In accordance with the rapid development of the Municipality of Catarman, Northern Samar
Provincial Hospital(NSPH), in the near future would be inaccessible to the public for the roadways
of Catarman would soon be immersed with traffic due to low traffic volume capacity of roadways.
Moreover, the NSPH is nothing but an old facility with low accommodation and proper facilities for
its patients, whereas the population of Catarman is dramatically increasing due to its development.
Therefore, a relocated provincial hospital with high accommodation facility would be highly
operative in the coming years. The new proposed provincial hospital would be established in either
Brgy. Cawayan or Brgy. Dalakit. Imagine this establishment being built on these places, the
ambulance vehicle would never be engaged with the city traffic.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To create a green building design of the annex hospital

building, which will provide quality and comfort that can

accommodate their growing number of patients
To introduce a self-sustainable structure with rainwater
harvester

RIVER BANK STABILIZATION

OF SITIO DIRAYA, CAPUL,
NORTHERN SAMAR

RIVER BANK STABILIZATION OF SITIO

DIRAYA, CAPUL, NORTHERN SAMAR
RATIONALE:
The continuous increase in area of Diraya River can affect the
residences and rice field along the river. With this problem we
intend to take an action by stabilizing the river bank using
various methods of river bank stabilization that is suitable for
Diraya River. This project aims to prevent erosion, landslide,
demolition of existing facilities, and in reducing the area of
agricultural land.
