Parental Responsibility

Parental Responsibility means

pananagutang pangmagulang in Filipino
: pananagutan, responsibility and
magulang, parent. The root word of
pananagutan is the noun sagot,
answer or response; the verb sagutin
means to answer or respond, and the
adjective managot, to be accountable
or answerable for.

The process of molding a childs character

is like pot making (a home industry
among many Filipinos, especially in the
North). While the clay is still soft and
malleable , it is easy to form and fashion
it according to the desired shape. If the
clay is allowed to harden and to dry up
before molding it, it will surely crack and
break into pieces.
-The Clay Metaphor(Timbreza 1982)

Very common among the Tagalogs is the

preaching:
A curved and crooked tree should be
straightened while its still soft;
once it grows big and tall, it will be
difficult to stretch it
Whatever kind of childhood one has
gone through determines what kind
of an adult one shall become.

Reflection

This is the most important type of

responsibility in human society; for
without this responsibility , the family ,
which is regarded as the smallest social
unit , cannot long endure. If parental
responsibility fails , the family also fails ,
insofar as the family depends upon
parental responsibility; and if the family
breaks down , then society colapses; for
society can only survive when families
remain strong and intact/

Wala nang ibang kabiguan na mas hihigit pa sa

kabiguan ng isang magulang sa pagtupad ng
kanyang responsibilidad sa kanyang mga supling
