To define resources, go to Enterprise > Resources

When the Resources window is opened, you may not see any
resources although there may be some resources defined. This
usually happens and it is because of the default filters that are
used in P6. To change the resource filter, we use the Display
Options bar. Note that the Display Options bar also display the
name of the filter activated. So having a sight on Display
Options bar is important in the sense that one is informed
about the filter currently activated. To display all the
resources, click on Display Options Bar and go to Filter By >
All Resources.

Now, to define a resource, click on the (+) icon (i.e. Add tool)
in the command tool bar or press the Insert key of your
keyboard.

After the above step, there may be two options available to define theresourcei.e. Wizard and non-wizard.
If you are defining for the first time then you may face wizard option. This option can be controlled via Edit >
User Preferences >Assistance. Only those who have all the information relating to a resource, he is
advised to use wizard.

Use the indenting keys to indent out

the resource CR.

Let us define different details for a resource. The details for a

resource can be defined at Resource Details Pane. If the
details pane is not displayed, it can be displayed by either
clicking on the Show Bottom Layout tool in the main tool bar
or right click in the Resources window and click on Details.

The screen shot for the Resource Details is shown in the following figure;

The Active check box shows the resource is available to use. So for all the resources we will
define here, we will keep it checked.
The resource details have different tabs. Let us put the following details for the Labor
resource.

details are shown below;

Similarly, define another Resource SPV i.e Supervisor. The details will be same to that of
Labor except that the Max Units / Time will be 2d/d and rate of the Supervisor should be
$11/d. The calendar (under details Tab) will be 7 work days per week.

we have to keep our resource pool as simple as it could be. Therefore, we will just use these two labor resources. Now let us define
material resource. To define a material resource, we have to first define units of measure. After defining the Unit Cft, add another
resource Concrete. Change the type of resource to Material under Details tab. Select the unit Cft and change the calendar to 7
work days per week.
For resource Concrete, update the Units & Prices Tab by changing Max Units per Time to 500 Cft/d and standard rate to $20/Cft

Units of measureare used to define material resources.

Whenmaterial resourceis defined, we need a unit to assign
to it. To define units of measure, go to Admin > Admin
Categories
TheAdmin Categoriesdialogue box will be displayed
Click onUnits of MeasureTab. Then click on Add Button.
Type the Unit Abbreviation Cft and the Unit name Cubic
Feet

What is Resource Pool or Resource Dictionary in Primavera Project Planner 6?

In P6, the resources are defined in form ofResource PoolorResource Dictionary. Resource Pool or Resource Dictionary is nothing but a collection of the resources that is used in the project. Usually, the following steps are used for resources inPrimavera Project
Planner 6;
First of all one has to defineResource Calendar. Mostly, this step is not used unless you have some resourceavailability limitationsi.e. a resource may not be available throughout the working days. Then we have to follow this step. This will help the P6 to take care
of anyactivity/activitiesthat will be using that resource,during scheduling.
After defining theResource Calendar, we define the resource. We assign the resource type. To assign the resource type is mandatory. Sometimes, as discussed in first step, a resource calendar is assigned to a specific resource. There are many optional details which
can be input too for instance,Unit priceof resource, Email address/contact details etc. If someconsumable(material) ids defined, then we have to define the corresponding units too. It is advised to keep your resource pool as simple as possible. Do not input an
extra data unless you or your client requires it. I am advising this not becauseP6cannot handle but to make the things simple for you.
The third step is to assign the resources and its number.
It is advised to add thecriticalresourcesonly to your resource pool orresourcedictionarybecause later inmonitoringstage, one has tomonitorandcontrolit. You can keep yourmonitoringsimple if you have lessparametertomonitor. Resources are one of
the importantparametersof theProjectPlan.
So the summary is ::: KEEP IT SIMPLE ! :::
