1. The Zero conditional
1.1. What is the zero conditional?
Zero conditional is a structure that indicates that the condition is a fact that is
true

1.2. Using the zero conditional


is used to express truths demonstrable or scientific

examples: if you stay under the rain, you get wet.


if you get near a fire, you get burned.
if you add two and two, you get four.
1.3. Structure of the zero conditional
+ (afirmative) if + subject + verb in the present simple, (comma) + subject + verb in the present simple
-- (negative) if + subject + don`t or doesn`t + verb , (comma) + subject + don´t or doesn´t + verb

1.4. Comma
The use of the comma in the zero conditional is only used ehen the sentence “if” it appears the second,
when it appears in the first place is not necessary to use the comma.

Conditions: you've got a headache, you don't wear a crash helmet, you heat it to 100 ºc,
she comes home very late, you leave gates open in the country, you add sugar

2. The first conditional
2.1. What is the first conditional?
the first conditional is a structure consisiting of two parts, one part in this and
another part in future

2.2. Using the first conditional


we use the first conditional to talk about a given situation and its future
results.
example: if it rains today, I´ll stay at home
if I have time, I´ll visit my parents this afternoon
2.3. Structure of the first conditional
+(afirmative) if + subject + verb in present simple + subject + will + verb +
complements

2.4. Comma
if the first part of the sentence is made up of “if” after the sentence is usually
put a comma if the sentence with “if” comes in second place is not necessary
to put a comma

3. The second conditional
• 3.1. What is the second conditional?
The second conditional is a structure consisting of two parts, one part
is formed to “if”

3.2. Using the second conditional


The second conditional is used to talk about a fact impossible or improbable
and therefore
Examples: he wouldn’t have any money if he didn’t work
3.3. Structure of the second conditional
+ (affirmative) if + subject + verb in past simple + complements + subject +
would + verb in infinitive +complemets

-- (negative) if + subject + verb in past simple + complements + subject +


wouldn’t + verb in infinitive + complements

3.4. Comma
As in the other conditional, the comma is often used phrase usually fester if
listed first

4. The third conditional
4.1 what is the third conditional?
third conditional sentence consists of two clauses, an "if" clause and a main
clause

4.2. Using the third conditional


Used to talk about something unreal or impossible in the past
If you had rung the doorbell, they would have opened the door.
4.3. Structure of the third conditional
if + subject + past perfect verb+ subject + would (OR could, OR might) have +
past participle

4.4.comma
The comma is used when the sentence comes first “if”

• He crashed his car, because he fell asleep while driving.

2. We couldn't go to the concert, because we didn't have enough money.
