WEB GIS
Web GIS holds the potential to
make distributed geographic
information (DGI) available to a
very large worldwide audience.
WEB GIS
The challenge of Web GIS lies in creating
software
systems
that
are
platform
independent and that is on any computer
capable of connecting to the Internet and
running a Web browser.
This task is different from running expensive
licences proprietary GIS software over localarea networks (LANs) on just a few types of
computer hardware.
WEB GIS
Web server displays only GIF, JPEG so
data transfer in raster format.
Image is sent so original data is safe.
Commonly known as WMS.

HYBRID STRATEGIES
HYBRID STRATEGIES
Useful for certain "pay for use" and "maps on
demand" applications where users would
"subscribe" to make periodic or regular use of
a server for data or specific types of analyses.
Designing an effective hybrid solution is most
effective if the designer understands in detail
the audience for the Web GIS application, the
capabilities of the audience's computers, the
audience's knowledge of GIS applications.
HYBRID STRATEGIES
Applications :
Real time map browser
Map generator
Spatial data catalog
Geographic Information Search

CONCLUSION
Web-based GIS is becoming more and
more prevalent as time passes.
With Internet connections getting faster
and faster, the amount of information
that can be transferred over the
Internet is staggering.
