THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY OF AN


ARCHITECT

What is an architect ?
Definition :
Architects create the overall aesthetic and look of
buildings and other structures, but the design of a
building involves far more than its appearance.
Buildings also must be functional, safe, and economical
and must suit the needs of the people who use them.
Roles:
Divided into three section.
a) Design role
b) Documentation role
c) Construction role

a) Design Role
Design a concept of a product that meets
up with the clients wants and fills up with
the required facilities that goes along and
are relevant to the concept.
b)Documentation Role
Document the design and coordinate a
more detailed concept that is suitable for
construction. This usually directed to the
other expertise of the construction project
for example the engineers.

c) Construction Role
To be able to solve any sudden critical
problems regarding the concept or design
of project together with the other expertise
of the project.

Responsibilities of An
architect
Be able to stay in the course line for a long term vision.
Able to give permission or not in phases where changes are made to satisfy certain

aspect of design whether it will not be fit for the whole concept of the project or
otherwise.

Strategizing
Able to strategize new ways if there are things that is out of the construction control.

In other words able to solve problem at critical times and to think of resources that can
smooth out difficulties face. While maintaining the long term goal.

Sets objectives for the design.


Creates a certain qualification for the design so that it

meets up to its quality from the clients. Architects


needs to inspire and encourage colleague to work
professionally to meet up the standards of
stakeholders.

Fight entropy

Threats that is directed to the concept of design needs

to be cleared off by convincing the clients that a


certain way that has been propose to the project is
better that what is suddenly think of. Architect needs
to think thoroughly the advantages of every certain
aspect of design.

Traits Needed To Be An
Architect
Great communication skills
Either verbal or non-verbal, written or orally. This to

prevent communication breakdown between clients


or other expertise for the project.
Good negotiator.
Architect is expected to delivers progress faster and

in the cheapest way possible in achieving objectives


but they need to also negotiate which aspects that
needed improvement and under what regulations.

Convey Credibility and Trust.


Architects needs to have a sense of

trustworthy in the work line to be able to


gain more authority in decision- making.
Resilient and Patience
An architect will interact with a great

number of people with different


personalities and the constant thing about
it is changes that keep on coming regarding
the project . Thus, he or she needs to adapt
to the environment so the progress of the
long term vision of design is finalised
