SEISMIC SURVEY EXPLORATION

Before commencing any drilling activity, site surveys are carried
out to gain more detailed information on the area where an
exploration well may be drilled, and to confirm that the selected
drilling location is safe. Field activities that occur during seismic
survey exploration include:
Surveying and mapping surface and subsurface geologic
features to identify areas where oil and gas may have
accumulated;
Collecting seismic data to evaluate a geologic formations
potential for containing economically producible quantities of
oil and gas and identifying the best location to drill an
exploratory well to test the formation

DRILLING TYPE
3 drilling types:
a) Exploration drilling Exploration/Wildcat wells are drilled to determine whether oil or gas is present.
b) Appraisal drilling - If promising amounts of oil and gas are confirmed during the exploration phase, field
appraisal is used to establish the size and characteristics of the discovery and to provide technical
information to determine the optimum method for recovery of the oil and gas.
c) Development drilling - If appraisal wells show technically and commercially viable quantities of oil and gas, a
development plan is prepared and submitted to the relevant authorities for approval

BASIC SEQUENCE OF WELL DRILLING PROCESS

Spud well
Drill 30- 36 pilot hole
Set 30 Conductor
Drill 26 surface hole
Install 20 surface casing
Drill 17 intermediate hole
Install 13 3/8 intermediate casing
Drill 12 hole to top of reservoir
Perform wireline logging (depending on MWD and Gas data)
Install 9 5/8 casing
Drill 8 hole to TD
Perform wireline logging (depending on MWD and Gas data)
Run and set 7 liner
Plug and abandon (optional)

Well Profile

DATA SAMPLING
Detailed sampling and data collection are performed during
drilling 12-1/4 hole section (top of reservoir) and 8-1/2hole
section (target zone)
Sampling and data collection are performed by mudlogger
Gas while drilling data used to correlate the target zone

All data that have been

compiled later on will be
presented into mud log.
This log will be used by the
geologist at town to give
further instruction whether
the well is worth to proceed
with Well Testing
procedure which to
identifying the reservoir's
capacity to produce
hydrocarbons, such as oil,
natural gas and
condensate

If the data collected are not

sufficient enough to proceed with
Well Testing procedure, the well
then will go through Plug and
Abandonment procedure which
will be the end of drilling process.
