Badge Work & The

8 Point Challenge

The 8-Point Challenge revolves


are the following concerns:
1. CHALLENGE OF SPIRITUALITY AND WELL BEINGdelves into spirituality, religious creeds and practices,
ethics, values, attitudes , and relationship.
2. CHALLENGE OF FAMILY LIFE-reinforces of the Girl
Scout in her family, which is the basic unit of Phil
society.
3. CHALLENGE OF ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCYprovides practical and meaningful activities that would
values like discipline, resourcefulness, teamwork,
decision making, leadership in a group
4. CHALLENGE OF ENVIRONMENT- prepares the girl to
live in and cope with a rapidly changing environment
and its attendant problems.

5. CHALLENGE OF PREPAREDNESS-underscores the


importance and meaning of survival in different situations. It
translate the GS Motto Be Prepared.
6. CHALLENGE OF OUR HERITAGE AND CITIZENSHIPopens opportunities for the Filipino to love her country and all
that it stands for.
7. CHALLENGE OF THE ARTS- prepares the Girl Scout to
experience the sublime and finer aspects of human endeavor.
8. CHALLENGE OF WORLD COMMUNITY-unfolds the wider
world to the girl and makes her known her unique place in the
larger scheme of things.

BADGE WORK
Badge Work- is a proof that a Girl Scout has changed
her behavior or acquired new knowledge and skills
because she participated in the activities both her patrol
and in the troop.
It is the process by which the Girl Scout Program is
carried out. The girls choose from among many program
offerings. The stress should be on each girls interests,
her experiences and needs and her personal work.
Badges are not awards, rather these are established
with a view to developing in each girl the taste for certain
skills, which may give her a career and not leave her
hopeless and helpless in going out into the world.(Lord

THE BADGE WORK PROCESS


1. Prepare the girls- introduce and describe the

girls are ready to receive their

Games, simulated situations, actual situations, demonstrations,
etc.
This can be done individually, by troops, with other troops, etc.
They may work in troop meetings, at home, at school or
wherever

10. Fill out application for badge work.
11. Submit form to the District Coordinator or Field
Advisor who in turn submits form to the
council
and secure badges
12. Plan and discuss with the girls the Awarding
Ceremony for those who will receive the
badges.
13. Award the badges.

Sample Agenda and Ideas for Troop Meeting


1. Opening Ideas- starts with a prayer or reflection,
followed by
the Rededication to the Girl Scout
Promise and Law. It
includes checking of
attendance and collecting of
dues and or sharing
something new.
2. Patrol in Council- The troop then breaks into the
Patrol-in Council
where the Patrol Leaders inform the
members of the decisions taken
during the Court of Honor
3. Patrol MeetingActivities may include the following:
-work for a badge

- practice skills

-play games

- make new games

-practice first aid

- do a good turn for sch.

- learn how to sew

- plan hike out/cook out

4. Main Troop Meeting- the patrol display skills, crafts, songs,


dances or badges they have worked on during the Patrol Meeting. The
Troop Leader can incorporate some fun games & other activities.
5. Conclusion- The Troop Meeting can end with a friendship circle, song or
prayer.

Celestial Ceremony

Equipment: Magic Carpet

Place: A garden, or lawn, or wide ball, or park.

PART 1- INTRODUCTION
Troop leaders( North Star and Morning Star) stand at the center of the garden or hall with the
Magic carpet in front of them..

Step 1 the Star Clusters by turns enter hopping and skipping and singing their rhyme songs
until they reach their troop leaders. They form semi-circle around the Magic Carpet, stand at attention and
sing their respective songs.

Step 2-Morning Star comes forward, executes the Girl Scout sign to
North Star who return it, and then announces aloud
North Star, we have found a little Twinkler/little Twinklers in
the Starry Circle who wants/ want to join our Stars.

Step 3- (Morning Star then fetches the Twinklers who are hiding

PART 111- FOLLOW UP


Step 12- North Star: Now you are truly a member of
the Star Scout Troop. But before your Star cluster can
accept you, your mother will put on your Star Scout
Cap.
(Mothers or guardians comes to the circle and puts
the cap on her daughter.)
Step 13- North Star: We welcome you to the Milky
Way. The Star form a big circle around the Magic
Carpet, holding hands and then dancing to a song of
their choice.
PART 1V- SPECIAL FEATURES
The Star clusters show the special number they have
prepared for the new Star Scouts.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY
( Junior Scouts)
ENTRANCE
At signal from the Presiding Leader, the entire troop with the girls to be invested
enters, marching into horseshoe.
The Ceremonies Proper
a) The Presiding Leader opens the ceremony by giving a brief talk on the Promise and
Law that the new members are going to make. As she talks the co-leader lights each of
the candles representing the three parts of the Promise and each component of the
Law.
b) The Presiding Leader calls on the Investing Officer to take her position at the right
side of the table.
c) The Presiding Leader then calls on the Patrol Leaders thus, Patrol Leader (Name
of PL) You may now present your candidates for membership.
d) the Patrol Leader as called, takes one step forward, makes the girl Scout Sign, after
which she says: Madam, may I present . . . . . . . . . . . And . . . . . Who have passed
their membership requirements and now wish to be invested as Junior Scout
e) As each candidates is called she moves forward and so on until all patrol leaders
have presented their respective candidates.

MAKING THE PROMISE

a) The investing officer with the presiding leader who brings the tray of Junior pins goes to each
candidate
and asks:
Do you know what your honor means? Can I trust you on your to try to do your duty to
God and your country, help other people at all times and obey the Girl Scout Law?
b) Candidate: Yes, Madam I do.
c) Investing Officer: Please give the Girl Scout Promise.
d) As the candidates recites the Promise, both the candidate and the investing officer execute the girl
Scout sign. The Patrol Leader in acknowledgment as a witness executes the sign as each of her girls
recites the Promise..
PRESENTING THE PIN.
e) The Investing office pins on the left collar of each girl the Junior pin saying I trust you to keep the
Promise you have just made and to fulfill your responsibility as a Junior Scout.
b) The Investing Officer welcomes the candidate by executing the girl Scout sign and the left handshake
simultaneously as she says:
a) Welcome to the sisterhood of Guiding and Scouting .
OPTIONAL FEATURES: Guest Speaker may be invited to give a talk for 3 to 5 minutes
CLOSING: The command to Break Ranks is given by the Presiding Leader.

LEADERSHIP

What does leadership mean?


- is a dynamic process, striving towards improvement,
individual personal development.

- implies action rather than status.
- involves knowledge and good personal qualities.

Are all born to be a leader?

LEADERSHIP

A leader must bear the acronym of


F A T.
F- aithful- dutiful, loyal, worthy of trust, consistent
of the truth.
A-vailable- accessible for use. She should learn to
share her 3 Ts (talent, treasure & time)
T-eachable, undergo a course of training. Training
helps the TL to understand the aspects of scouting,
principles, aims and objectives, asses her abilities,
use her strong points & how to overcome weak
points, and other special need.

ROLE OF TROOP LEADER

1. Friend and role model- friendly, impartial and consistent in decision


making, encourages others, notice & pay attention to the meaning of
action, develop girls potential and sensitive to the needs of girl scouts
and others.

2. Programme-plan and make decision to provide fun, adventure,


challenge & educational activities.

3. Sharing Leadership- recognizes her own limitations and utilizes


outside help, involves her troop in planning, underlying the concept of
shared responsibility, delegates & encourage troop members to work in
cooperation.

4. Management- ensure the regular and trouble free functioning of her


troop and accept responsibility for the troop records and financial
management.

5. Personal Growth and Development- undertake training both


within and outside the GS Movement and evaluate her own effectiveness
as a leader.

6. Communication-has good communication skills aware of her


responsibilities and maintain good relationship with surroundings.

CONCLUSIONS
A dynamic leader is
someone who can lead her members to
act:
Action may not always bring happiness but there is no
happiness without action.
Unless you feel fulfillment theres no happiness.
But how can a leader be very confident of herself. First and
foremost she must develop self-worth and self-confidence.

The big secret of dealing with people is the desire to be


important.
