HOLIDAYS AND CELEBRATIONS

The Feast of Our Lady of


Guadalupe,
which
is
celebrated on Dec. 12, is
a major Mexican holiday
celebrating
the
appearance of the Virgin
Mary to an Indian man in
the first years of Spanish
rule.

The Day of the Dead,


celebrated on Nov. 2, is a
day
set
aside
to
remember and honor
those who have died

The Independence day,


on
September
16th,
celebrates
Mexicos
liberation from Spains
rule in 1810, and is
celebrated as a national
public holiday.

MEXICAN FOOD
The diet of Mexicans includes staples
such as corn or wheat tortillas, along
with beans, rice, tomatoes, chili
peppers and chorizo, a type of pork
sausage. Empanadas, which are
handheld pasty pockets, can contain
savory or sweet fillings. Many Mexicans
love spicy foods full of heat.

It is a typical Mexican
custom very cheerful
and fun. These
containers made of
paper mache and filled
with fruits and candies
are very popular during
the Christmas
celebrations known as
inns and at birthdays.

LOS PARACHICOS IN THE TRADITIONAL


HOLIDAY OF JANUARY OF CHIAPA DE
CORZO
During January 4 and 23 the
Holiday is celebrated. The
ballet dancers cover the
whole locality taking the holy
images and visiting diverse
cult places, and its dances
begin in the morning and
finish at night.

THE MARIACHI

The Son Jalisciense, better known


as Mariachi is probably the music
that best defines the country in
the international context. The
lyrics of the songs of the
mariachis speak of the love of the
land, the city where live, the
native country, religion, nature,
the Mexican women and the
strength of the country.

This colorful is reflected in


the dress and traditional
costumes that the men and
women of Mexico used in
special occasions. One of
the garments which is used
