Definition of Climate
Climate is the state of weather
including temperature, humidity, clouds,
rain, and sunshine on an area within a
longer period of time (30 years).

TROPICAL CLIMATE
Tropical climate zone is a zone that is located on the
equatorial line, exactly between 23.5 degrees
Northern Latitude to 23.5 degrees Southern Latitude.
The equator is called the imaginary line is the line
that divides the earth into two parts, north and
south. The area is located in a tropical climate zone
only has two seasons, the wet season and dry
season.(lokasi/negara yang beriklim tropis)

Asia : Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand.

America : Venezuela, Brazil, France.
Africa : Ghana, Madagaskar, Tanzania

The Characteristics of
Tropical Climate
1. The high rainfall intensity
2. High Humidity
3. The temperature is hot until
convenient
4. Fewer air flow (wind)
5. The sun shines all year roung
6. Small heat exchange caused by high
humidity

The Characteristics of
Tropical Building
1. Heavy rainfall coped with a steep roof slope
2. High humidity, addressed to:
- Using porous walls of the building
- The building has two types of windows, temporal and
permanent. We can use temporal window during the
daytime.
3. Direct ray radiation can be overcome by using sun
shading.
4. The moist air, moist soil, and the heat turning radiation
from the ground caused the air saturated. This situation
can be overcome by lifting the floor of the building to
allow air to flow under the building.

Subtropical Climate
Zones
Subtropical climate zone is a zone that is located
between 23.5 Northern Laitude to 40 Northern
Latitude and 23.5 degrees Southern Latitude to 40
degrees Southern Latitude.
The regions in subtropical climate zone have distinctive
features that consists of autumn, spring, summer, and
winter.
Asia: South Korea, Japan, China
America : Mexico, Uruguay, USA
Europe : Portugal, Spain, Greece
Africa : South Africa, Egypt, Libya
Australia : New Zealand

The Characteristics of SubTropical Climate

1.
2.

3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

Having four seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and

winter).
The difference of the seasons is very clear. In the
summer, solar radiation is massive, while in winter the
solar radiation is very small.
Hours during the summer is longer than hours at night,
and in winter daylight hours are shorter than at night.
The accumulation of heat in the summer approximately
of the summer time, and vice versa in winter.
When snows fall in winter, the humidity is low.
In certain seasons, winds were quite strong.
In the northern hemisphere the sun is always in the
south and in winter season sometimes the sun does
not appear.

The Characteristics of SubTropical Building

1.

2.
3.
4.

5.

Setting buildings in remote locations such as in dry

tropical regions using north-south orientation to the
facade width.
The layout of the building is not too close so, the building
can get sunlight in winter.
Using vegetation as a shade in the open space also can
protect the building in winter.
Installation of the windows facing south to get the suns
heat. Sometimes, in the winter also use electic heater or a
fireplace to make the room warm.
The building was built with thick double walls, with the
addition of heat insulating material between the two layers
of the wall so that the heat inside the building is not easily
travelled to the outside.
