Pre School History

Alice attended Big Sandy Head Start. She was very happy
while there and thrived during her attendance. She then
attended Pre School at Welch Elementary School and started
swimming on the swim team. She knew her ABCs and could
count to 20 before entering Pre School. She could also spell
her name and write her phone number. Next she went to
Kindergarten where she started playing T-ball. She then
went to first grade at Welch Elementary as well. She has
always made wonderful grades and loves school. She hates
when she has to miss school, even when shes sick.

School History
Mrs. Hale, the second grade teacher at Welch Elementary
School, explained that Alice is a great student. She said that she
is sometimes shy but in general is a popular student among her
peers. She explained that Alice often helps other students when
she can and is a joy to teach. Mrs. Hale said that Alices
attendance is wonderful and she never has to remind her to do
her work or turn in homework. She also explained that Alice
never disrupts class, talks out of turn, or gets up without
permission. She said that overall she often never knows Alice is
in the room because she is such a good student.

Observations of Child
When I arrived in the classroom the children went from being very
engaged in their IPads to focusing their attention on me. I was
given lots of greetings, smiles, and waves from all of the students.
Shortly after my arrival the students were instructed to line up and
place their IPads on the shelf. The students then did so in an
orderly manner, Alice included. Mrs. Hale, the instructor, had a
no worksheet Wednesday meaning the students do not do any
worksheets at all on Wednesdays. Mrs. Hall then informed the
class that for their math lesson they would play Addition Bingo.
After passing out the Bingo Cards and the chips, Mrs. Hall began
calling out problems such as 6+6 and 5+8. The students had to
take the chips given to them and mark the area in which the
answer appeared. Each round the students had to cover a certain
area on the cards to win. Each student that each round had the
privilege of writing each problem called out by Mrs. Hale on the
Smart Board for the rest of the students to see. Alice was very
attentive to the game and seemed to be enjoying herself. I also
observed that Natalie did not have to count on her fingers to mark
the answer on her Bingo Card as some of the other students did.
While playing rounds 1 and 2 Alice would smile when she had an
answer on her card; however, she didnt overreact as some of her

Cont. of Observations
When Alice didnt Bingo after the second round I heard her
explain to a few classmates sitting near her, I only needed one
more to Bingo. For round 3 Mrs. Hale called out Four corners
this round. A boy sitting across from Alice asked, What does four
corners mean? Alice answered his question by picking up her
Bingo Card and pointing to the four corners while explaining you
have to get all four corners covered to win. After Mrs. Hall called
out about seven problems Alice said BINGO. Mrs. Hale then
checked her four corners and announced her as the winner of
round 3. She was very excited that she won and got to write on the
Smart Board. While Alice was standing at the front of the room
writing on the Smart Board she kept glancing at with a smile. I
could tell she was very happy that she had won while I was there
observing her. After round 4 of Addition Bingo Mrs. Hall instructed
the students to turn in their Bingo Cards and chips so they could
get ready for Music Class. The students then lined up row by row
in an orderly manner. After lining up most of the students got pretty
rowdy, but Alice only whispered to a classmate standing in front of
her. Before they left out to Music I announced I was leaving. They
were all very well-mannered and wished me great goodbyes.

Summary
Overall I feel Alice has developed very well in both educational and
social growth. I feel a lot of her development is because of her great
ecological system at home and all around her as Urie Bronfenbrenner
proposed. She has both parents at home and both of her Maternal
grandparents were school teachers. She has no brothers or sisters
therefore everyone gets to focus their attention on just her. She is a bit
shy but is a very smart student. She also is very mature with not
wanting to miss or disrupt class since most children her age think it is
fun to do so. She is also mature for her age by helping other students
when they are in need. Urie Bronfernbrenner also mentions how
siblings may affect a child. Since she has no siblings I feel this has
something to do with her shyness and maturity. She has no child at
home to be kiddy with. She is use to how adults act therefore this is
how she acts. Alice seems to be over excelling since she not only is
popular as her teacher explained but does very well in school as
well as plays sports. She never showed off or disrupted class just
because she knew I was there for her as many children would have
done. I feel that she is so well rounded because she has both parents
there for her as well as a great teacher and friends. I do not think her
being shy will effect or have anything to do with her excelling in life.
She is just a normal little girl who gets backward when an adult
focuses just on her. She shows all factors of a child that I would enjoy
teaching thanks to her well rounded ecological system.
