SKILL:

Understands how
ELECTRICAL ENERGY is
made.
How is it produced?
What are its sources

w ELECTRICITY is produced

protons

MATTER

electrons

What are the different

sources
of electricity?

Distribute the
electricity
they produce to the
homes of
the consumers.
Electricity
is used a home to
cook food, run the electric fan,
Television, radios and some oth
household appliances.

Electric Power Plant

These wires are

conductors
of electricity. They carry
electricity from the
electric power plants to
your homes.

Solar Power Plant

SOURCES OF ELECTRIC
Is an electricity generated
from the suns energy,
collectors are needed.
Solar poweris the conversion
ofsunlightintoelectricity,
either directly using
photovoltaics(PV), or
indirectly using
concentrated solar power.
Concentrated solar power
systems uselensesormirrors
and tracking systems to focus
a large area of sunlight into a
small beam. Photovoltaic cells
convert light into an
electric currentusing the
photovoltaic effect.[1]

SOURCES OF ELECTRIC

Fossil-fueled Power Plant

Is apower stationwhich
burnsfossil fuelsuch as
coal,natural gasor
petroleumto produce
electricity.

Fossil-fuel power stations have

machinery to convert the heat
energy ofcombustioninto
mechanical energy, which then
operates anelectrical generator.
Theprime movermay be a
steam turbine, agas turbineor,
in small plants, a reciprocating
internal combustionengine

Geo-thermal Power

SOURCES
OF
ELECTRIC
Plant
THERMAL ENERGY uses coal to heat water
I its boiler. When water boils. It changed to
steam turns the turbines causing a
device called generator to run.
(Mechanical Energy --- Electrical Energy)
Geothermal powerispower generatedby
geothermal energy. Technologies in use
include dry steam power stations, flash
steam power stations and binary cycle
power stations.
Countries generating more than
15 percent of their electricity
from geothermal sources include
El Salvador,Kenya, the
Philippines,Icelandand
Costa Rica.
Geothermal power is considered
to be a
sustainable,renewablesource of energy
because the heat extraction is small
compared with the Earth's heat content

SOURCES OF ELECTRIC

Hydro-electric Power Plant

Falling or moving water is

also used by some power
plants to generate
electricity. These Power
Plants are called Hydro
electric power plants.
They store water in
dams, this falling/moving
water turns turbines that
make generator run.

In 2015 hydropower generated

16.6% of the world's total
electricity and 70% of all
renewable electricity,and was
expected to increase about 3.1%
each year for the next 25 years.

Wind Power Plant

SOURCES OF ELECTRIC

Wind poweris the use ofair flow

throughwind turbinesto
mechanically powergenerators for
electricity
Wind farmsconsist of many
individual wind turbines which
are connected to the
electric power transmission
network.

Wind power, as an alternative to burning

fossil fuels, is plentiful,renewable, widely
distributed,clean, produces no
greenhouse gasemissions during operation,
consumes no water, and uses little land. The
neteffects on the environmentare far less
problematic than those of
nonrenewable powersources.
