ISTE Standards for

Teachers

Effective teachers model and apply the ISTE

Standards as they design, implement, and
assess learning experiences to engage
students and improve learning; enrich
professional practice; and provide positive
models for students, colleagues, and the
community.

All teachers should meet the following

standards and performance indicators.

Standard One

1. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and
technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity,
and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

A. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and

inventiveness

B. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic

problems using digital tools and resources

C. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify

students conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative
processes

D. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with

students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments

How I Used This Standard:

I created a graphic organizer using Kidspiration.

Kidspiration allows students to unleash their creativity
while creating learning based projects. Creating graphic
organizers allows students to exhibit innovative thinking
while organizing their own ideas and thoughts.

I used a website called Zunal to create a WebQuest.

WebQuest allows students to be engaged in real-world
issues while solving authentic problems. WebQuest also
allows students to learn in a virtual environment.

I created a comic using ToonDoo. Students are able to

express their creativity while demonstrating their
knowledge about particular subjects.

Standard Two

Design and develop digital age learning experiences and

assessments

Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning

experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools
and resources to maximize content learning in context and to
develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the
standards.

A. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that

incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student
learning and creativity

B. Customize and personalize learning activities to address

students diverse learning styles, working strategies, and
abilities using digital tools and resources

How I Used This Standard:

Using websites like Zunal allow students to learn in a

technology-enriched environment. Using this tool allows
teachers to create their own activity that allows students
to manage their own learning.

I created a screencast using Screencast-O-Matic. This tool

accompanies a variety of learning styles. Both audible and
visual learners are able to benefit from this type of tool.

During this course, I researched ten interactive websites.

These websites can be used by teachers to customize and
design their own activities for their students. These
websites are very beneficial for both students and
teachers.

Standard Three

Model digital age work and learning

Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of

an innovative professional in a global and digital society.

A. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of

current knowledge to new technologies and situations

B. Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members

using digital tools and resources to support student success and
innovation

C. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students,

parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats

D. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools
to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support
research and learning

How I Used This Standard:

I demonstrated fluency in technology systems by creating

a screencast. I created a screencast using Screencast-OMatic. A screencast allows teachers to effectively teach
students by showing students step-by-step instructions.

By using AudioBoom, I created a podcast. Podcasts are a

great way for teachers to communicate information to
students.

After creating my Weebly portfolio, I have realized how

effective websites are in order to communicate
information to students and parents. This website is also
a great tool to store information and student work.

Standard Four

Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility

Teachers understand local and global societal issues and

responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and
ethical behavior in their professional practices.

A. Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital
information and technology, including respect for copyright,
intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources

B. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learnercentered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate
digital tools and resources

C. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social

interactions related to the use of technology and information

How I Used This Standard:

I promoted and modeled digital etiquette throughout my

Weebly portfolio. I also demonstrated responsible social
interactions related to the use of technology and
information.

By editing and creating a video through YouTube, I was

able to advocate, model, and demonstrate safe and ethical
use of digital technology. Editing and creating videos is a
great tool for teachers to use in their teaching careers.

The ten different interactive websites that I researched in

unit six can benefit a variety of learners. These websites
tend to the diverse needs of all learners by using learnercentered strategies.

Standard Five

Engage in professional growth and leadership

Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model

lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and
professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective
use of digital tools and resources.

A. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore

creative applications of technology to improve student learning

B. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion,

participating in shared decision making and community building, and
developing the leadership and technology skills of others

C. Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice

on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging
digital tools and resources in support of student learning

How I Used This Standard:

A variety of Web 2.0 tools allow teachers to

participate in local and global learning communities.
These tools also allow teachers to explore creative
ways to improve student learning.

This course allowed me to engage in professional

growth by allowing me to explore the variety of ways
in which technology can be integrated into the
classroom.

This course has also equipped me with the

leadership skills needed to successfully run a
technology based classroom.
